Oops. Counting too darn tricky for The X Factor.

Did Mel B. really mean to send Audio Vixen home from The X Factor or can she just not count?

You gotta love live telly. Last night’s X Factor verdict show was a night of confusion, and it all boiled down to the inability of people to count properly.

When the judges were forced to choose between Audio Vixen and Johnny Ruffo it came down to a casting vote by Mel B.

With two votes for Ruffo and one vote for Audio Vixen, she began her preamble by saying, “One thing for sure is I’m not going to go to Deadlock.”

That meant Ruffo would be getting her vote and going home. But by the time she finished her comments she announced Audio Vixen for her vote -sending both acts into Deadlock. What the?

There were looks of confusion on the faces of the judges, with Mel B. even heard to say “Shit, sorry.”

Host Luke Jacobz threw the vote back to the original audience vote and Audio Vixen were sent packing.

So did Mel B. really mean to see Audio Vixen leave or can she just not count?

But counting also got the better of Chris Isaak, singing Roy Orbison’s Pretty Woman. As anyone who has ever warbled this tune knows (yes, even I admit to goin’ there), those final bars at the end of the song are an absolute killer.

“She’s walkin’ back to meeeeee…… yeah……. she’s walkin back to meeee….. woahhhh”

It’s notorious for requiring singers to keep count.

Isaak knew something was up when he began looking at his band members towards the end of his performance.

But despite his confusion he still managed to finish the song ahead of them. Meatloaf would have been proud.

Despite the royal stuff-up The X Factor judges gave him a standing ovation. Would they do the same for one of their own finishing ahead of the music?

Isaak was so embarrassed he made a gag about being eliminated from the show. And then another about kids growing hair on their head and improving their sex life (hey, PG rated show, nice!).

Ahh live telly.

  1. Hey David, just a quick question about the X Factor UK – would you possibly know why it is screened in the UK on a Saturday? Wouldn’t a Saturday night be the least rated and therefore worst possible night to have such a highly rated show on? Would you be able to explain this? Thankyou in advance

  2. And she still made the wrong decision.

Ruffo if he makes it to real stardom will be a flash in the pan

Audio Vixen can be international superstars with a little coaching, mainly in dress style

  3. @ alfagirl. Yes i do. Sadly there is no or little room in this world let alone for the music industry for substance, people vote with their feet and by feet i mean with what they are most atracted to or like. A case in point would be a new and inevative policy which would enrich and benefit the peoples lives enacted by the Govt, but this policy is expensive and will take a good deal of time to complete propperly and succesfuly, people usually vote against that just look at the Labor Govt. So my point is that substance atleast in the short term is unpopular and will find it hard for anyone to support it especially in this day and age. Its negative but its the truth.

  4. @Armchair Analyst .. You say that one of the members of AV needs to tone up and lose weight. Fair enough that’s your opinion. It’s true that a certain ‘look’ is usually more popular with viewers. Does that mean you think Andrew should be the next to go even though he has a great voice but lacks in every other aspect of the ‘look’?

  5. At the end of the day, Johnny is hot, hot, hot, and does have stage presence, and after meeting him last week, I can say he is probably one of the most confident people i’ve met. But Audio Vixen are way better singers, also have stage presence and are the loveliest people you could meet
