FOX has renewed The Simpsons for two more seasons following tense negotiations with its key actors.

Terms of the two-year contract were not disclosed.

20th Century FOX Television had been looking to cut the salares of the actors by as much as 45%.

Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria and Harry Shearer currently make $440,000 per episode and the offer to keep doing the show was for about $250,000.

They had indicated it would be willing to accept a big pay cut in return for a share of profit from reruns and other ancillary revenue streams however that was resisted by the studio.

In a statement released prior to the new deal being agreed upon, Shearer said the cast’s salaries “pale in comparison to what the show’s profit participants have been taking home.”

Ratings for the long-running show have fallen in the last few years while the cost to make the show has increased.

  1. THis is great news as i said in the previous post when i first heard about the pay strike. There are two ways of looking at it the principle or the rest of the general publics salaries in comparison. As a fan i am glad that we will still get to see them at least for two more years. OH and David when will 11 screen new eps of the Simpsons.

  2. It’ll probably officially end after 25 seasons (a good number) followed by a second movie to coincide with the end/celebrating 25 or 30 years depending how long they wait till after the series is over. BTW I wonder what the pay was for the actors for the last movie? I wonder if they got a one off deal similar to Harry Shearers post the other day.

And to the people complaining about the picture – it fits perfectly for this story – the mutual “kiss my ass” between the actors and Fox. Geez. I seriously cant believe people are complaining about That..

  3. I think it’s a great choice of photo !

I’d love to see the Simpsons wrapped up in a similar way to how the fabulous 6ft Under finished. Give us a couple of one hour specials in which the Simpsons age and take a final curtain call. Sure it will be sad but it could be wonderful too.

  4. I used to love the simpsons but since the movie I dont even watch the new eps. Lets call it a day and just make one great movie a year instead of 12 hours of rubbish.

  5. It’s so great how a show as great as this will hit season 25. I know it may have gone downhill but it’s still a great show and will always be remembered fro decades to come.

  6. I watched an interview with Harry Shearer where he explained why they negotiated for such a big pay raise originally (interview’s online at Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show). He said that the Simpsons makes Fox a ton of money, so the actors simply deserve to get a fair share of that. Executives who have almost nothing to do with the actual making of the programme get a big chunk of change from it, why shouldn’t the key players? His argument made sense the way he put it.
