Renewed: The Walking Dead

After a whopping 7.3 million US viewers on cable, AMC renews its zombie drama for a third season.

Australian viewers will have to wait until early next year to see its first season but The Walking Dead has been renewed for a third season in the US.

The AMC zombie drama launched its second season with 7.3 million US viewers and 4.8 million in the adults 18-49 demographic -the most ever for a basic cable premiere.

AMC president Charlie Collier said, “Today we are pleased to announce that the ‘dead’ shall live as we proudly renew The Walking Dead for a third season on AMC and, globally, with our terrific partners at Fox International Channels.

The series, based on the comic books by Robert Kirkman, premiered its second season globally to more than 10 million viewers in 122 countries.

FIC’s FX channel will launch in Australia in early 2012 with The Walking Dead‘s first and second seasons back to back.

  1. No, the show got new writers because show runner Frank Darabont had a massive falling out with AMC over the budget and they gave him the boot.

And it’s a great change to the teen age based Vampire/Werewolf shows ruining icons of horror.

  2. I think Zombies makes a pleasant change to all the vampire concepts out there…

Although isn’t the show getting new writers each season to keep fresh? Could back fire…
