Sunday Night: Oct 30

This weekend Sunday Night visits Jessica Marais, shooting her new cable drama Magic City.

This weekend Sunday Night visits Jessica Marais, shooting her new cable drama Magic City (which you can catch a glimpse of here).

And there is also a story on Motor Neurone Disease. Is it just me or is Sunday Night now a ‘disease of the week’ show?

JESSICA MARAIS
Jessica Marais was the Rafter next door when she packed her bags for the bright lights of Hollywood. Now she’s one of the hottest new stars in the States, and has scored a role in the hit new US series – Magic City. In her first in-depth interview, Jessica takes Sunday Night on a tour of Miami where she’s shooting the show. Along for the ride is her fiancé James Stewart, who also played her boyfriend in Australia’s favourite family drama. In this special report, Jessica talks love, babies and work with Rahni Sadler, and reveals one of the great tragedies of her life.

THE ULTIMATE BATTLE
This is the story of an ordinary man showing extraordinary courage. A few months ago Scott Sullivan was living the dream. At the age of 39 he had a beautiful wife and two gorgeous children. Then he felt a tingle in his arm, and visited a doctor who delivered bombshell news – Scott had Motor Neurone Disease. It is an illness with no cure, and will slowly claim his life. Some people are given just months, Scott may be lucky to live five more years. Gradually, his body will fail him, but Scott is determined to live a different kind of life, and in the time he has left, help others battling MND – pinning the hopes of sufferers on a magic pill. It won’t save Scott, but the world trial of this new drug could lead to a cure for this cruelest of diseases.

MAWSON’S HUT
It’s the most isolated place on earth, an impossible environment for humans to exist in. A century ago Sir Douglas Mawson set out in a tiny boat to discover Antarctica at the bottom of the world. Now, we take you on an extraordinary scientific expedition deep into the same crystal waters, and capture amazing encounters with whales, seals, penguins and gigantic icebergs.

PROMISE TO A MATE
It was billed as the adventure of a lifetime – three best friends riding quad bikes more than 60,000 kilometres across 38 countries to set a world record and raise $100,000 for charity. As Sunday Night reported earlier this year, just a few hundred kilometres short of reaching their goal, a shocking tragedy saw one of them killed in an accident. His devastated mates return home with his body, vowing to return and complete the journey for their friend. Join us as we cross the finish line alongside them in a tearful tribute to their fallen mate.

6:30pm Sunday on Seven.
