TEN appoints new Head of News and Current Affairs

TEN has appointed a new News boss in Anthony Flannery, currently Head of News and Current Affairs for TVNZ.

TEN has appointed a new head of news and current affairs in Anthony Flannery, currently head of news and current affairs for TVNZ.

Flannery will take over from interim news boss Dermot O’Brien, who was appointed after Jim Carroll resigned in June.

Before joining TVNZ four years ago, Flannery spent time at Nine as Senior Producer of A Current Affair, Executive Producer of Today and Executive Producer of the National Nine News.

Flannery will take responsibility for managing and building all aspects of the TEN’s News and Current Affairs from broadcast to online from January.

Interim Chief Executive Officer, Lachlan Murdoch said: “We are fortunate to have someone of Anthony’s calibre overseeing the strategic development of our growing news brand. We welcome the fresh perspective that Anthony brings to the role as we look to take our news and current affairs to the next level.

“Anthony’s extensive multi-platform news and current affairs management experience will be a tremendous asset to Network TEN as we continue to explore new content and alternative delivery opportunities for our news line-up.”

From January Dermot O’Brien will become Network editorial manager and resumes as ATEN’s Melbourne News Director.

“Dermot will remain focused on leading and shaping the Network’s news strategy until January 2012. He has done an outstanding job as the interim head of news and will continue to play a significant leadership role across our news and current affairs brands next year from Melbourne. Dermot has steered TEN’s news through a demanding period and the Network is grateful for his continued guidance,” Murdoch said.

Last week TEN ended its two decades of TEN Late News but next year adds Breakfast to its morning schedule.

Corrected.

  1. So, after the Vandals have sacked Rome, Flannery is being given the job of what? – rebuilding it, or just looking after the ruins and making sure no-one steals any of the nice marble rubble?

Bet his first job will be to commission a statue of Rupert Murdoch wearing a laurel wreath…

  2. This guy needs to restore everything that Murdoch has flattened. I would bring back Ten Late News but have it at 11:30pm. It can’t hurt surely. TEN News at 5 needs to be 1 hour only. Move George Negus to 6pm and have Neighbours back on TEN at 6:30pm. I know its a backflip but TEN need to do this. If James Warburton is any good at what he does he needs to fix TEN’s schedule as soon as he is in the chair because the current management team know jack crap and have ruined TEN and ONE. Eleven is the only one that looks safe….for now at least anyway.

  3. Wow that guy must now have the easiest job waiting for him

Since the Morning News will likely be axed as well next year to make way for Breakfast, they’ll only be one bulletin per day to look over

  4. at least Sandra is still on nightly even if it is for only 3 mins. the news on ten is all over the place since Lachlan Murdoch come along, coincidence ?
