When is a World Exclusive not a World Exclusive?

Updated: Networks put Beyonce back in the spotlight as Seven and Nine disagree over who had the World Exclusive on her new video.

Beyonce sure has been causing a lot of fuss lately…

‘Fake’ bellies. Choreography being copied. Breakfast show appearances that were just replay clips.

The latest one concerns her new video clip for “Love on Top.”

On October 9th Sunday Night played about one minute of the clip “fast-tracked from America exclusively for us here at Sunday Night.”

But yesterday the Today show played the same video in its entirety, with Richard Wilkins insisting it was a World Exclusive.

Late yesterday Seven was questioning how Nine could claim it as a World Exclusive.

Tom Malone, Today‘s Executive Producer told TV Tonight that Today was given the World Exclusive on the full clip.

Beyonce’s website carried the message “I am excited to give my Australian fans the World Premiere of “Love on Top.” Thank you for the amazing response to the song at radio.”

To settle the score, TV Tonight asked Sony Music’s John Parker to clarify which show had the World Premiere.

Sunday (Night) had the sneak peek as part of their interview and Today show had the full clip play,” he said.

Which almost settles the argument. Doesn’t it?

Update: just to complicate things, I’m advised Today didn’t actually play the clip in full after all. My head hurts.

  1. Can’t Seven take the higher ground here and just let Nine claim whatever they want?

I mean Seven have won a clean sweep of the ratings year… can’t that just be enough?

  2. Like the “First on 9” still photos of the Madang plane crash in their 4:30 news (which they incorrectly spelt “Medang”) whereas ABC24 had video from Liam Fox that morning. I guess the stills were “First on 9” in that Nine had stills when others had video. But then Nine did have video of someone standing in bushes at Port Moresby airport. LOL.

  3. does for me…world exclusive sneak peek and world exclusive full showing…. but both networks lead the world in spin doctoring and self and cross promotion…
