NB: Celebrity Apprentice is out on Thursday but Wednesday night will include both Challenge and Boardroom elimination.

Young Doctors is out for Wednesday.

Today, November 8, 2011, a jury in Los Angeles, California delivered a verdict of guilty in the trial of Dr Conrad Murray for the Involuntary Manslaughter of Michael Jackson in 2009.

Forty-eight hours later, with the transmission embargo now lifted, Channel Nine, in A Current Affair Special Presentation, will rush to air, Michael Jackson and The Doctor: A Fatal Friendship which includes an exclusive news interview with Dr Conrad Murray.

From November 2009, prior to Dr Conrad Murray being charged, the special’s producers gained exclusive access to him and have filmed with Murray throughout the intervening two years and have continued to record with him during the trial.

The special also features the only interview Dr Murray has sat for, which was recorded on Sunday 30 October, 2011.

Following the verdict, this powerful and dramatic one-hour special explores the relationship between the King of Pop and his personal physician and features exclusive access to Dr Murray, who chose not to take the stand during his trial.

It explores the surreal world inhabited by Jackson in the last three months of his life and examines his fatal friendship with the doctor he handpicked to care for himself and his children.

It was a private world where the controversial use of powerful medication was a way of life, where a man adored by millions lived as a virtual recluse, and where an unknown cardiologist from Texas found himself the unexpected companion, confidante and intimate to one of the most famous men in the world.

When Michael Jackson died on June 25th, 2009 only two people were in the room: Jackson and Dr Conrad Murray.

Now, this special reveals Dr Murray’s account of those events for the first time.

Michael Jackson and The Doctor: A Fatal Friendship reveals the chain of events that led to one man dead and the other fighting for his reputation and freedom.

7pm Thursday on Nine.

  1. I am disgusted that ACA and 9 aired this doco. Murray had the opportunity to profess his innocence in court but declined for obvious reasons.
He is a killer and a liar, and proven so over and over, even in this doco he says he made calls then had no phone to call 911 and so many other lies.
MJ was one of the biggest humanitarians of our time and not supporting that but rather supporting such a criminal as murray by giving him a platform to tell more lies is beyond me.

  2. To stoop so low, shame on you ACA and 9.
I boycotted the show and at least 50 others of my family and friends did too.
To expect us to believe a load of lies from the man who has been convicted of killing Michael Jackson, shame on you.
If it had been anyone else you would not have shown it but you the media did decide to crucify this wonderful entertainer not just this documentary but time and time before.
How about a documentary on his tireless humanitarian efforts, he gave over $350 million to charities. Name another performer who did that.
Yes the media never told the world all the good this man did and now with killer Conrad Murray you have stooped to an all time low.
I and countless others will not be watching your show anymore.

  3. Is there really that much interest? There have been much bigger events and interviews that barely make the news let alone rearranged primetime schedules over.

  4. I see absolutely no reason why they feel the need to show a documentary that is clearly sympathetic with the criminal in this case – with somebody who so clearly acted inappropriately, directly resulting in the death of another person. To document his point of view and treat him with such sympathy is in my opinion immoral. Would they consider this documentary to be acceptable if the case didn’t involve Michael Jackson? I doubt it. From the description I have read online the documentary will present the defence point of view and include an interview with Dr Murray who will obviously declare his innocence and deliberately portray Michael Jackson in a negative light. Michael Jackson is of course not here to add balance to the show and this interview clearly identifies the bias intention of the show to be ‘pro-Murray’.
What is even more disturbing is that this documentary was filmed before the all the opposing evidence had been heard and before the jury reached their verdict and so (excluding the potential for a token disclaimer at the beginning or end of the show) had already made its mind up how it was going to portray Murray and Jackson. It’s important to note that While Jackson may have asked for the drugs (although it was proven that he had spoken about his doctor advising him it was a suitable treatment for insomnia), the prime causal factor here was clearly Murray’s actions which were contrary to the Hippocratic Oath he took.

This document is biased in the extreme, using only defence sources, including the criminal himself to show the victim in a negative light.

Where is the documentary showing what really happened in Michael Jackson’s last months? This is clearly not it.
