ELEVEN added to Foxtel satellite

Update: Good news for Foxtel's satellite customers in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane with ELEVEN now having been added to the platform.

Good news for Foxtel’s satellite customers with ELEVEN now having been added to the platform* (just in time for American Horror Story too!).

The channel is now available on Ch. 131.

As many subscribers know, it has been frustrating that some Free to Air channels, including ELEVEN, ONE, 7mate and GEM, have been unavailable to satellite customers. Especially those looking to record their programmes on iQ.

With Foxtel understood to be wanting FTA channels to pay for retransmission fees it has been some frustration trying to get clarity on when the situation would be resolved.

Readers had also voted “Adding all FTA digital channels” as their top Pay TV complaint in TV Tonight‘s annual Audience Inventory.

Next stop: 7mate, GEM and ONE added for Satellite viewers?

*UPDATE: A Foxtel Spokesperson advises: “Foxtel will begin retransmitting the commercial free to air (FTA) channel ‘ELEVEN’ to satellite subscribers in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane from November 1, 2011. Ten’s main channel, ELEVEN and ONE HD have been retransmitted to all Foxtel cable subscribers previously and are currently available. Ten’s main channel is also currently retransmitted to satellite subscribers in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane only. One HD is not retransmitted to satellite subscribers.

“The Foxtel service does not guarantee subscribers access to all of the commercial FTA channels via retransmission. Retransmission of individual FTA channels and the corresponding Electronic Programming Guide (EPG) data is dependent upon each FTA network or affiliate choosing to retransmit the channel in a particular region and entering into a retransmission agreement with Foxtel.”

  1. I am a Foxtel Satellite subscriber. Good news but human nature is we always want more. It’ll be interesting to see how much ‘Neighbours’ ratings improve with increased accessibility, obviously won’t catch up to Home and Away.

And i understand there is this dilemma where foxtel are asking FTW netwoks to pay a transmission fee but can someone please explain why all FTA digital channels operate on cable but not satellite?

In short, what makes cable unique that they don’t have this dilemma as well?

  2. @Big V – because you are on Cable – this post relates to viewers who receive Foxtel via Satellite – believe it or not they are two different services with slight differences in channels available – that being the FTA stuff. Can you not read or are you deliberately being obnoxious?

  3. With regard to ONE not being available on Satellite due to it being a HD channel is wrong as it is still broadcast in SD in Sydney so there is really no excuse for it not being available on Foxtel Satellite! They better hurry up and get all of them on otherwise I will be giving it the flick so sick of their arrogance!

  4. One, 7mate and Gem are HD channels and cost way more for satellite room than the SD channels. Doubt we’ll see them up on satellite.

Foxtel need terrestrial tuners for the satellite iQs.

  5. Amazed that we are still waiting for ONE to be added.

To be honest the only reason I want it is so I can watch F1 without the terrible reception I get on my digital receiver.

One day when the world comes to its senses we will get F1 on pay tv and be able to watch it properly with no ads! At least dont have to put up with Neil Crompton anymore.
