Kruger deal a closely-guarded secret

By David Knox on November 19, 2011 / Filed Under News 22

Sonia Kruger’s switch to Nine had been negotiated by her management across a number of weeks. But it was a closely guarded secret with network execs, with even senior production sources unaware the Dancing with the Stars co-host was making the move.

The Herald Sun reports Nine was able to offer her a longer contract than Seven, plus the opportunity to host -or co-host- a morning television show as well as Big Brother.

She is also tipped to take part in Nine’s Olympic coverage.

However, her defection from Seven is expected to impact on Kerri-Anne Kennerley who could be facing her last week of hosting her own morning show next week (a summer edition will continue, consisting of annual highlights).

Nine launches its 2012 Programming next week when it is expected to confirm Kruger’s on-air roles.

I love Sonia! Great news, i cant wait for BB she will be perfect!….. I hope it is on 6 days a week like channel 10 or we wont be able to engage in the housemates personalities

    We Love You KAK!

Yikes poor KAK, reminds me of the way they booted Jane Fonda’s character from her morning show in Monster-In-Law. I hope she goes berserk in a similar fashion, it’s only fair.

I just feel for Kerri Anne. The decent thing 9 could do is actually tell her whats going on. She seems to find out through the media. Its her last week of KAK before the summer series so it will be interesting to see what she has to say.

If she does get the mornings gig next year, it’s the Circle for me….she is one person I can’t stand…

Kerrie-anne for host of DWTS, James Tobin or Rachael Finch to replace Sonia ,Daniel Mcpherson for xfactor and Luke back to Home & Away. Problem solved,

@thesquareproject – i’ve read from several sources that what the ‘secret’ does is that it forces people to not to fly ‘under the radar.’ How that happens – I dont know, but there is almost nothing worse than housemates who do nothing and make it to the final.

    Good for her

Hosting to backstage room of DWTS wasn’t much of a gig anyway..

It defintely was hush-hush considering she appeared on the last episode of Beauty and the Geek as “host of Dancing with the Stars”…

@jonno, ten set a good standard for big brother, but after the third season, the bar started falling, the final season had promise, but it was more about ratings than the actually show, which is why we saw it fail…. if channel nine wants it to work they need to do a few things, 1 interesting housemates. 2 focus on those housemates and 3 dont throw in a bunch of d list celebs to try and save it. let the housemates control what happens. the show is about 12 strangers living in a house together cut of from the outside world.

i dont know if the whole “secrets” idea will work here…

  12. jonno November 19, 2011 at 2:36 pm -

TEN got the best out of Big Brother and 7 got the best out of Sonia Kruger. Nine’s main problem is that 10 set a pretty high standard with BB and will find it hard to top it. 7 did not seem to fight too hard to retain Kruger. Seven should grab Kerrie-anne and keep the lights on at Martin Plaza and give her the Midday slot. Glam her up, let her sing and dance and just have fun at Midday, nothing too serious. I remember the old Mike Walsh days,it was all about entertainment and just having a good old fashion laugh.

    So KAK has been boned?

  14. TVLover November 19, 2011 at 2:20 pm -

She should host A Current Affair also

As long as she doesn’t become ‘Sonya Everywhere’, like most of the other Nine presenters, she’ll be well received.

  16. catherine November 19, 2011 at 12:39 pm -

Everyone has said Sonya is leaving except Sonya herself. I think BB would suit her. Wonder how Kerri Anne fans will react if she takes over. Didnt Sonya do that olympic show with a daddo during Beijing and it was terrible?

Well she wont be part of 7s cup carnival anymore either.

Good riddance KAK! Your time has come. Finally your Alan Jones defending, refugee fearing views will be gone from the morning block. Now we just have to get rid of Stefanovic, Fordham and some of the Fox News type replacement newsreaders who tweet all day about their shoes and how the ALP and greens are demons.

  18. deedeedragons November 19, 2011 at 10:59 am -

    Bye-bye KAK!

  19. Wlie November 19, 2011 at 9:38 am -

Gosh I am tired of this woman. Why not a fresh new face for BB 2012? Why must networks use and re-use, then re-use again the same faces? If Nine want to skew younger with BB, I don’t believe Sonia Kruger is the right choice. To take over on KAK , yes perhaps but not BB.

  20. JB November 19, 2011 at 9:25 am -

“She is also tipped to take part in Nine’s Olympic coverage.”

Oh dear. Nine’s Olympics coverage will be even worse than I imagined. If its filled with the likes of Eddie McGuire, Jame Brayshaw, Shane Crawford, Andrew Voss, Karl Stefanovic and now Sonia Kruger. It won’t be worth watching.

  21. Steve November 19, 2011 at 7:33 am -

Who the hell is Sonia Kruger?

  22. Kerry November 19, 2011 at 7:03 am -

Looking forward to the TT stories when BB gets controversial. Sonia’s boyfriend is the EP.
