Paul Henry talks up new Breakfast job

When Lachlan Murdoch rang him for a new TEN role, Paul Henry thought "Rich family. I'll take this call!"

Upcoming TEN Breakfast co-host Paul Henry has given an interview to NZ’s TV3 about landing his plum new job.

“I got a call from Lachlan Murdoch in Australia and he said, ‘It’s Lachlan here, Paul.’ And I thought ‘Lachlan? Hmm. Lachlan Murdoch? Aha! Rich family. I’ll  take this call!'” he said.

Henry will co-host Breakfast with Andrew Rochford and a yet to be announced female presenter.

When asked if he was earning  $1M (AUD$760,000) for the gig he said, “I won’t answer that question but I’m glad you asked because that is exactly the way I would ask that question.”

Pushed as to whether it was over or under $1M he answered, “Over.”

“It’s quite good isn’t it?”

Why don’t Ten hire Sandra Sully and Brad McEwan to host alongside Andrew Rochford which seems to be a better option and get Frank Coletta, Tim Webster or Ron Wilson (if they want to re-sign him) to do the news and get Rob Canning or Tim Webster to do the sport and for the weather we could suggest hiring new faces or possibly get a high profile personality to do the weather. As for Paul Henry, no way for me. What do you think everybody.

  2. As a Kiwi now living in Australia I had hoped I had seen the back of Paul Henry – he is a nasty piece of work – I will never watch him. Australia;ia I am sorry he is being inflicted on you!

  3. Why does Ten’s board listen to this idiot!!
    Why couldnt we have kim watkins and andrew rochford!!! That would be a perfect match! Kim has so much talent, she has personality and humor and gets into it which is what people want!
    I want Kim watkins on breakfast!!

  5. David, is this story still current? Does he still have the job?
    Surely Lachlan woke during the night, and thought, ‘oh hell, what have I done!’ and has done something to correct his mistake before it happens.

  6. These comments are hilarious!! I watched some clips on youtube and he didn’t strike me as that bad…I’d probably watch him over Kochie. But then again I’ve never watched more than 15 minutes of a breakfast television program so I doubt I’m their target demo
