Reece wins The X Factor 2011

Reece Mastin has won The X Factor defeating Andrew Wishart and Johnny Ruffo.

Sixteen year old Reece Mastin has won The X Factor 2011.

In a battle of generations, he defeated Victorian Andrew Wishart.

The South Australian schoolboy was always the series favourite, based on his vocal skills and confident performances.

“I just want to say thankyou to everyone who voted…. my family and friends, everybody,” he said.

He wins a Sony recording contract and management with his debut single “Good Night” available for download.

40 year old sales manager Wishart was congratulated for his vocal consistency across the series.

“You’re a legend, this is just the beginning,” said Natalie Bassingthwaighte.

23 year old concreter, Perth’s Johnny Ruffo was eliminated from the final at the mid-point of the show, but has clearly won a legion of fans who have watched him improve across the series.

Mel B summed it up when she said, “Australia is falling in love with you Johnny Ruffo.”

The finale also included re-appearances by the remaining Top 12 finalists as well as memorable audition acts including a full production number by Luke O’Dell singing “Introvert Extrovert” and former refugee Emmanuel Kelly singing “Imagine.”

The Fray and Kylie Minogue also performed again with elaborately staged numbers.

The finale capped off a successful season for Seven with bumper ratings ensuring its renewal for 2012.

  1. Yes it was a great show and congrats to Reece. Although have to say wasn’t impressed with Kylies I should be so lucky. Maybe thats because I’m used to hearing the racey version?

  2. Amazing that after just a few weeks on the box and the kid’s a star. Let’s hope that after all the hype which will probably be gone by the weekend the kid has what it takes to grind it out in the harsh reality of this fickle business.

  3. I think it’s just good family entertainment. Some singers you’ll like and some you won’t. I thought in general the talent was great this year. I can see Reece and Christina in particular becoming big stars.
Also it was so much better this year having Mel instead of Kyle, it was a joke last year that talentless Kyle could be a mentor. I hope all the judges come back next year.

  4. @ steve sydney

I had a problem with the promotion of it as it wasn’t in a ad break it was introduced by the host.

GCB looks bad, but they are promoting it as naughty tv, so you know what you are getting

  5. Hard to believe that after last year X Factor almost didn’t get renewed yet this year it has done amazingly and they have already said they’ll be back next year. I wonder if it was the change in the judging panel that made the difference. Whatever it was I think the majority of the contestants this year were far above most of last year. Great to see they brough Emanuel back last night but really did they have to bring back Luke?

  6. @Dan – the US X Factor has contestants who can actually sing? Pretty poor attempts if you ask me. One can only rap (douchey Astro) and Stacy Francis is completely horrible.

  7. Tuned in Monday night and was gobsmacked at how bad the acts sounded – very karaoke.

I think people just get caught up in the excitment and hype of the show, and talent takes a backseat.

Reece’s duet with Kylie was awful – he butchered the male vocal. But I’m sure all the tweens loved it.
