Renewed: American Horror Story

On the day of its Aussie premiere, American Horror Story wins a second season from its US network.

Trick or treat? Treat.

FX has renewed Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s American Horror Story for a second season.

The story sees Dylan McDermott and Connie Britton head up a family that moves into a haunted abode where they’re tortured by spirits of the estate’s former residents.

The first episode was seen by around 5 million viewers and became the network’s No. 1 premiere in the 18-49, 18-34 and women 18-34 demographics.

Despite a dip during its second episode it rebounded with its third and fourth airings.

FX president and GM Jon Landgraf said, “It’s one thing to have the ambition and guts to reinvent a genre in a way that makes it captivatingly fresh for a broad audience — it’s something else entirely to have the craft to back that ambition up.

“Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have hit the trifecta with Nip / Tuck, Glee and now American Horror Story, which will be scaring FX’s viewers to death for many years to come.”

FX has high hopes for the series to run for multiple seasons, with each season having a beginning, middle and end.

The twisted new series, which co-stars Jessica Lange and Frances Conroy, premieres in Australia tonight on ELEVEN.

  1. Fantastic show. Hope Murphy can beat that 2nd year curse, maybe with the things he’s announced about the 2nd season (won’t spoil here) it will keep it fresh.

  2. As I said in the Lounge, surely this would ensure a good number for the premiere tonight. Knowing it’s already got a second season means its worth watching.
Only seen the first 5 minutes but it even that had me hooked, decided to wait since Ten said they were fast tracking it.
