Rejoice!
Ricky Gervais is back as host of the Golden Globes, set to strut his stuff on January 15th (US).
It will be his third time as host.
The move comes despite wide division on his last hosting where his remarks, including several aimed at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, were criticised by the HFPA President.
But it also delivered the Globes enormous attention.
“I love NBC,” Gervais told an interviewer earlier this year. “I love the fact that they stuck with me through it.”
The 2012 event will be the 69th Golden Globes. Let the gagging begin….

Yay!
The problem with these award ceremonies is they take themselves too seriously and it often becomes one saccharine congratulatory w*nkfest. At least someone like Ricky will make as entertaining for us!
God I hope we get to see it live, or if not, in prime time. There’ll be huge interest, I would imagine.
The Golden Globes, like the Oscars, desperately trying to be “edgy”. I wonder if they’ve stopped to wonder whether this turns more people off than on. I know I won’t watch anything hosted by Gervais. What’s the point of giving people awards, but no respect; or of celebrating what’s good about film and TV with nasty, lowbrow comedy?
Excellent news! Does this mean that NBC over-ruled or ignored the wishes of the HFPA?
And David, you might wish to consider using “joking” or “punning” instead of “gagging” when referring to the potential humour of ’69’. Just a deep thought…
The only reason I’ve watched this snooze fest over the past few years is to see Gervais make the stars squirm.
Good. He made it interesting.
The 69th that’ll be a choker
Good News!
Although I was looking forward to him maybe doing a life commentary online. Although probably wouldn’t have worked here in aus with slight delay.
Awesome news. Gervais in the 69er. 😛 You asked for it.
I think he’s overrated as a comedian, but when he’s on, he’s on. If he delivers another performance like his previous hosting gigs, it’ll be a night to remember.
