Top dog back behind bars

Former Prisoner actress Glenda Linscott, has returned to 'Wentworth Detention Centre' for a good reason.

Former Prisoner actress Glenda Linscott, has returned to her old stomping ground at Nunawading.

Linscott, who played top dog Rita “the beater” Connors, is back in the building that was home to Wentworth Detention Centre.

As good soapie fans know, it’s also been home to Neighbours, and Linscott is currently filming a three-month guest role.

“I just love being back and it’s hilarious to still see bits and pieces of those days and I even visited the spot where I said my last lines on Prisoner,” she said.

“I also saw the stairs where I threw many an inmate down, luckily my Neighbours character is more gentle. The impact Prisoner has had on my life is truly amazing.”

Linscott will play Jessica Girdwood, a no nonsense surgeon at Erinsborough Hospital who crosses paths with Dr Karl Kennedy (Alan Fletcher) and Rhys Lawson (Ben Barber).

Linscott, who is currently starring in Bad Blood Blues at Chapel off Chapel, also features in the short film A Fairytale Life, which has a sold-out Prisoner fundraiser tonight in St. Kilda.

She will be seen in Neighbours from March next year.

  1. Loved how she used to overtower some of the screws like Mrs Barry and Mrs Morris. Scary.

As for her cancer at the end, I don’t think we ever really find out for sure if it was a hoax but I’m pretty sure it was for real because she still had it after she framed the Freak.

  2. Didn’t the dying of cancer thing turn out to be an elaborate stunt to frame the freak, or have the years not been kind to my memory.

Loving all the 70’s/80’s/90’s/00’s Big name and former soapie stars popping up on Neighbours and Home and Away lately. It reminds me of the glory days of Aussie TV when all the actors and actresses would hop from soap to soap in major or minor roles.

In recent years many of these stars have been lost in the wilderness.

Now, if they could only find a way to make the young people on Neighbours & Home and Away not so boring, obnoxious and annoying, then these shows would be so totally watchable again, but the recent additions of faces from yesteryear is certainly helping improve the situation.

Would love to see Amanda Muggleton and Ally Fowler pop up in something soon. I miss them so.

  3. A wonderful actress!!! I loved her character on Prisoner but I remember being disgusted that in the script writers’ “better judgement” she was to be killed off by cancer. In the last scene we saw Rita in a wheelchair knowing that she only had weeks left to live…..

  4. Great to see her back, she was one of the 3 major Top Dogs in the show and was only in Prisoner in the final year. She not only pushed people down stairs but also gave out her fair share of bashings and also dangled The Freak from a cliff and threatened to kill her.
