Animal Kingdom in US series development

Showtime has picked up TV adaptation rights to Aussie feature film Animal Kingdom as a potential series.

US cable network Showtime has picked up TV adaptation rights to Aussie feature film Animal Kingdom as a potential series.

It is under development with John Wells (Shameless, Mildred Pierce, Southland) executive producing and Jonathan Lisco (Southland, K-Ville, The District) writing/executive producing.

“The project, now in development, is a crime drama exploring the tense battle between a criminal family and the police, and the ordinary lives caught in the middle,” notes Deadline.

Presumably that’s for an American crime matriarch and family.

The film was the brainchild of filmmaker David Michod and reignited the career of Jacki Weaver.

Underbelly was also picked up for similar US development for localised stories some time ago, but so far no more news has emerged.
