HBO has axed three of its shows and renewed a fourth.

Hung, Bored to Death and How to Make It In America have all been given the axe while new dramedy Enlightened starring Laura Dern wins a second season.

Hung, which recently saw star Thomas Jane nominated for a Golden Globe Award, ends at three seasons with  930,000 viewers, down considerably from the 2.31 million who tuned in for its Season 2 finale.

Bored to Death, starring Jason Schwartzman, Zach Galifianakis and Ted Danson, opened its third season to just 240,000 viewers, a significant drop from the 1.1 million the second season garnered a year earlier.

Fashion dramedy series How to Make It In America ended its second season with just 560,000 viewers.

Enlightened opened to just just 210,000 viewers in its October premiere, but earned Golden Globe nominations in both the comedy and best actress category last week. It premieres here on Showcase next month.

All the axed shows premiered in Australia on Pay TV, with both Hung and Bored to Death enjoying FTA replays on Seven and ABC1 respectively.

  1. Devastated about Hung! I quite enjoyed it’s quirky storylines. I guess I’ll have to make up my own mind about what happened to Lenore. Didn’t get into BTD, and was just about to get into HTMIIA and Enlightened.

  2. no, they axe the 3 shows i like and keep the boring one? should of given all 3 one more season to close it, will miss How to make it in America the most. but no more Hung will let Tom Jane free to do the Walking dead now.
