Following earlier rumours, Chris Meloni is confirmed to join True Blood as a regular for the fifth season.

Executive producer Alan Ball describes Meloni’s role as “an ancient, powerful vampire who holds the fate of Bill and Eric in his hands.” Fans have enthused that he may be part of The Vampire Authority, the council which rules over all vampires.

Adding the former Law and Order: SVU star surely amps up the alpha male factor on the sexually-charged series.

Meloni previously appeared in the HBO series, Oz, from 1998-2003.
