Nine Network publicity head resigns

Channel Nine's Director of Publicity and Talent Relations Heidi Virtue has resigned to become a full time mum.

Channel Nine’s Director of Publicity and Talent Relations Heidi Virtue has resigned to become a full time mother to her daughter Summer, who is yet to turn two.

The Australian reports Sydney-based Virtue has been in the role for five years having previously been Publicity Manager at Foxtel and working at Nine during David Leckie’s management.

She returned to Nine in 2007 for CEO Eddie McGuire and was responsible for overseeing Nine’s national publicity department, network’s personalities and talent.

During Virtue’s maternity leave Nine drew upon Victoria Buchan from the Lantern Group to oversee its Publicity team. Melbourne’s Head of Publicity Michelle Stamper is also highly regarded.

“The Nine Network’s loss is Heidi’s daughter Summer’s gain, because she’ll get her Mum back,” Nine corporate spokesman David Hurley said today. “We’ll miss Heidi but wish her the very best.”

Nine is yet to announce a replacement.

UPDATE: Media Release: Channel Nine’s Director of Publicity & Talent Relations, Heidi Virtue, today announced that she is stepping down from her position at the Nine Network.

Heidi said, “I have thoroughly enjoyed all my years at Nine, but have decided to take some time out from this demanding role to spend time with my little girl. It’s been a particularly challenging year, but after a really successful launch, Nine is well placed for a big year in 2012. I wish Gyng, Jeffrey, Michael and the entire team at Nine all the best, in particular the hard working publicists in Sydney, and interstate, for their tireless work and support for the past (almost) five years.”

Jeffrey Browne Managing Director of the Nine Network said, “We are sad to see Heidi go, but understand her desire to spend more time at home with her young daughter. Heidi has worked tirelessly for Nine both with the wider media, and our Network talent. All have developed a great sense of trust and affection for Heidi and her team, and I am sure all join me in wishing her the very best for the future.”

A replacement for Heidi will be announced in the New Year.
