RocKwiz: Christmas Special

By David Knox on December 8, 2011 / Filed Under Programming 4

Ok so there’s no Spicks and Specks Christmas Special this year but fear not, Julia and Brian are here with their own annual Yuletide Special on SBS.

Join RocKwiz regular hosts Julia Zemiro and Brian Nankervis, along with the RocKwiz Orkestra and the ever-faithful Dugald, in the magnificent Palais Theatre, St Kilda, for the music show that transforms the average Christmas Eve into a festive feast of comedy, performance and fun music trivia.

This specially extended festive television event features contestants selected from the audience, who bring their best music trivia knowledge and karaoke skills to the stage. Add to the mix some Aussie music legends as team captains who also perform festive hits from artists as diverse as Tom Waits, Stevie Wonder and The Ramones.

There are plenty of Christmassy questions, and the music, as always, is superbly arranged and played by the RocKwiz Orkestra made up of James Black, Peter Luscombe and Mark Ferrie. The RocKwiz Orkestra keeps it in the family by enlisting the talents of Dan Luscombe on guitar and RocKwiz favourites’ The Nymphs as the backing singers.

Saturday, 24 December at 9.30pm on SBS ONE.

Great show, thoroughly enjoyed it. Even my wife, who prefers the more traditional Christmas carols routine, liked it. Just one small point: any significance in the Nymphs and Shellie wearing boy’s shirts in the opening couple of numbers?

Spicks = overrated. Rockwiz = underrated.

It helps if we know who the guests will be (same goes for Letterman).
