Tina Arena tipped to re-join Young Talent Time

Update: Her showbiz career will come full circle as Tina Arena joins Young Talent Time as a judge.

Her showbiz career will come full circle if Tina Arena joins Young Talent Time as a judge.

In a sign of clever synergy, the Herald Sun reports Arena is tipped to become one of two judges on the revived talent show, to air in 2012 on TEN. A third guest judge would also join each week.

‘Tiny’ Tina Arena found fame as part of the YTT family before eventually forging success as an adult performer.

She remains a big advocate of creator Johnny Young, having inducted him into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

Last year she told TV Tonight she wasn’t a big fan of talent shows where judging took priority.

“I was asked a question probably a few years ago about Reality TV and I sort of said ‘Reality TV is Reality TV….’ she said.

“They asked me a lot about these singing shows and I said ‘I don’t have a problem with people showcasing talent.’ I never have. I never will. Where I do have a problem is the judgemental aspect of it, because everybody does it,” she said.

Arena also defended her appearances on Australian Idol.

“I was mentoring, I wasn’t judging. It’s a very different thing,” she stressed.

“Mentoring is about someone who’s got experience, they’ve been there, they try to inspire people, to motivate them or give them pointers. But I’m not sitting there judging them.”

Update: Now confirmed. Arena tells the Sunday Telegraph: “It seemed logical to me [to sign on] and didn’t really require too much thought. The thing for me was that there was such purity in that show and there’s not a lot of purity left on TV these days,” said Arena, who spent six years on the show after joining as a seven-year-old in 1977.

  1. Tina would be great as a judge. As I recall, judges on the original YTT were very encouraging and any criticism was very constructive. Tina is my favourite female singer 🙂

  2. wait…..there are no judges on YTT…..it wasn’t a talent show…I hope they aren’t going to mess with it….it was about kids who could sing…singing their hearts out…I hope they aren’t trying to do a mini Australian Idol.
