Titanic: full trailer

ITV's Titanic miniseries which will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the luxury liner.

ITV has now released the full trailer for Titanic, the four-part miniseries which will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the luxury liner.

Created by Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey), this will interweave multi-arc action, mystery and romantic plot lines, featuring a whopping 89 fictional and historical characters.

Each episode, except the last, will follow different characters told from each point of view that will culminate to a cliff-hanger as the ship begins to founder.

The fourth and final episode will draw all of the stories together by showing which of the characters survives and which doesn’t.

Seven will air the series in mid-April as part of an epic “Titanic-week” -but don’t be surprised if it begins against the Logie Awards, as April 15 is the 100th anniversary.

  1. Channel Seven will be releasing their own promo for the mini-series which will be 1 minute and 20 seconds long. Sources told me that it’ll be released on January 8 2012.

  2. Ok so it looks a lot like James Cameron’s epic. And IMHO, no remake of the Titanic can top James Cameron’s adaptation of that event.

That said, anyone who dare try to do their own version of the Titanic ought to be congratulated – Ill probably watch it, only to see if it’s like the movie.

James Cameron only focused on the fictional romance between Jack and Rose that had the Titanic disaster as the backdrop. He introduced several historical key figures into his film while the entire storyline revolved around the love story.

The difference between Cameron’s and Fellowes’ versions is that the film only had three hours to tell the story, while the television drama will have three episodes to tell the story by following the lives of different characters before ending in an explosive concluding episode. It will be based on the untold stories by focusing on the human drama from a different pespective.

People who claim that Julian Fellowes’ ‘Titanic’ is a poor ‘remake’ of James Cameron’s film are very naïve to believe so. James Cameron’s film was intended to be a ‘remake’ of the 1958 film ‘A Night To Remember’, but he also had a lot of storylines and dialogue lifted from previous films about the tragedy.

We can’t judge a television series upon a two minute trailer. We have to wait and see until it officially airs on April 12th 2012 and ends on April 15th 2012 before we can officially judge the series.

  4. Titanic: Spartacus Reborn – I’d watch that.
I’m sorry, but I watched this trailer thinking there’d be a new take on this. It’s like a cheap telemovie remake of Cameron’s film, wth shoddy sets and B-list British actors who didn’t get a gig in the film. A bit sad really. Having said that….. I’ll watch it, then complain how crap it is!

  5. I think ‘Titanic’ will resemble Downton Abbey, but more emotional and suspenseful. I think Julian Fellowes has written a very strong script for each of the four episodes. I’m quite surprised at how great the CGI looks for a television drama on a budget. I’m more excited for this, than Cameron’s 3D release.

  6. @Tony H. Aww jeez thanks for ruining it for me, I come on the site expecting not to be spoiled. David maybe you should review your spoiler policy. 😉

    (Tongue firmly in cheek)
