Cricket scoring runs on Nine, Foxtel.

Great numbers for Nine and Foxtel cricket offerings, breaking online records to boot.

Cricket continues to draw the crowds on both Nine and Foxtel this summer.

On Day 3 of the Second Test between Australia and India captain Michael Clarke rewrote the record books with his 329 not out. Nine pulled an average audience of 1.028 million viewers and an audience share of 58.6% across the day.

Wideworldofsports.com.au also generated a whopping 6.9 million page views, the largest audience engagement on the site in its five-year history.

The Second Test is up 33% in audience on the 2011 Sydney Test between Australia and England.

Meanwhile FOX Sports Big Bash Cricket has also been slaying them, with its biggest audience this week over 300,000 viewers, light years ahead of the rest of Pay TV’s offerings. There have been positive reactions to having players miked up as they play, including Shane Warne commentating whilst on the field.

  1. Will all the 5 days scheduled of the WACA test match be shown all day in Perth? As tv guides atm say only day one is shown all day, despite the Test being a sell out.

  2. The FTA figures are only up on the Ashes from last year due to the fact the Aussies not getting thrashed against the Indians as they were against the English last summer. Typical Aussies not interested when they are not doing the bullying.

  3. HD is what i have Austar for. If our stupid FTA networks didn’t keep shunning HD in this country and we have sport in HD, actually lets not stop there have everything in HD it would look so much better on my TV. HD is where we are moving but the Australian networks keep on laughing at us going HD? Foxtel is the only real one who has a lot of HD content for us to watch and lets say this Cricket on Fox Sports HD is a lot clearer than it was on GEM. GEM used 720 while Fox uses 1080 which is so much clearer.

Overall Fox wipes the FTA’s networks away when it comes to HD and its about time the FTA networks woke up and started giving us all our shows, sports and news in HD! We are so far behind the times in this country its not funny,

  4. @joe…read my post again – Fox vs 9 coverage comment was on HD and pigeons only, hence the full stop at the end of that sentence.
As for bandwidth availability there is nothing stopping any FTA channel from showing sport in HD right now…it’s just that they fail to do so.

  5. yeah haydos, Gilly Hussey have all been miked up for T20’s for years, ever since its inception. that’s 9’s gimmick to begin with.

On the Cricket australia App you can purchase the abilitiy to watch the BBL on your Iphone, with Foxtel ads. just wondering if that adds to their ratings in any way?

  6. Yeah I cannot wait until Analogue is killed off and the bandwidth opens up, though if everyone has no Analogue, then the secondary channels being secondary channels is kind of moot.

That is if the Government had have regulated Digital TV better (and I mean both Liberal and Labor), the fact that Set Top Boxes and some TV’s with tuners don’t have the ability to broadcast HD is ridiculous. Should have been SD/HD only, then when Analogue is turned off stations like 9 for the Cricket/NRL 7 for the AFL and etc; could have those on the HD channel without having to run it on an SD Channel as well (like One and 12).

As for commentary, one of the best buys I made this year was a Digital Radio with a Pause button on it, being able to say put the Cricket on the TV and then on the Radio and sync the broadcasts up has been brilliant with ABC commentary and Nine pics (will do the same with live AFL on 7 as well).

  7. Barrett you do realise that Nine introduced players being miked up years ago right? As for HD, well once there is more bandwidth availabe for networks (2014 I think?) then all the FTA networks can have a dedicated HD channel for their main channel as well as in SD plus keeping their other HD channel as well Gem, 7mate etc

  8. If only someone at Fox Sports would remind Damien Fleming he is commentating on cricket, not AFL. The constant AFL player interviews between innings is going over the top too.
Just stick to cricket Fox Sports and talk AFL on your AFL channel when it sarts up next month.

  9. Have been watching pretty much all BBL matches and last nights Heat/Hurricanes match was an absolute cracker.Fox Sports coverage leaves 9’s for dead…….beautiful HD,no idiots waffling on about pigeons.Agree the players being miked up is excellent – Warnie got caught out dropping some non family language but then it was pure gold listening as he revealed where and why he was going to bowl to certain batsmen and then watch as the wickets fell.
