Graham Norton now on TEN

TEN will premiere The Graham Norton Show on Saturdays from January 14.

TEN will premiere The Graham Norton Show, formerly an ABC acquisition, from 8:35pm Saturday January 14th.

It will air in between two movies, Ice Age (6:30pm) and Mercury Rising (9:35pm).

There should be 13 episodes remaining in this series with first guests likely to be Gerard Butler, Karen Gillan and Noel Gallagher. Also set for January are Andrea Riseborough, James D’Arcy and Madonna.

But will Norton connect with TEN’s audience and is he enough to salvage Saturday nights?

Fast-Tracked directly from the UK the irrepressible Graham Norton showcases his wickedly cheeky sense of humour and fast-paced interview show.

  1. Shame, enjoyed it on ABC2 but will not watch or even bother trying to record it on Ten.
Looks like alternate avenues will be explored for viewing TGNS now.
Agree on the sweep idea….how about a poll David – just for fun.

  2. Have to agree with Paul. Ten will probably drop it after a few weeks.
What is it with the comercial channels? All they do these days is show repeats of old ABC shows, or pinch them and dump them. No wonder Ten came Fourth. “We’re still Number 4, We’re still Number 4”. Remember that little piece of fun?

  3. “not TEN’s demographic”

What is TEN’s demographic these days? Anyway, I don’t think they want to attract TEN’s traditional demographic. They want the baby boomer ABC viewers who stay home on Saturday night. Seven employs a similar strategy with British shows.

I won’t be watching it. Fox Sports is my saturday night viewing most of the year.

  4. Ten should build their saturday night around this show. It is very entertaining and given the right approach could be a huge win for them. However as usual with aussie tv execs….they have not got a clue.

@ Oscar…. you are almost right….Rove is like a ‘bad’ version of GN

  5. @Bella: I don’t think the ABC sold Graham Norton Show to Ten, rather Ten paid more money than the ABC to secure the rights. Just like Nine paid big bucks to grab BBC documentaries and a number of dramas (e.g. Sherlock) from the hands of the ABC.

  6. That really is disappointing news…it was perfectly positioned on ABC 2 (without ads). I cannot see how Ten will pull themselves out of their funk this year. James Warbuton has a huge job ahead of him.

  7. With Graham stuck between the umpteenth repeat of Ice Age and the umpteenth repeat of Mercury Rising, nobody’s going to notice. It’d be better off on 11 with the other comedy shows. It’s British-centric, doesn’t age well and not TEN’s demographic. I guess we are still in the ‘silly’ season. I’ll give it until the start of the important ratings before it’s moved.

  8. If it Had to go to commercial TV Seven should have scooped it up for 7TWO. They really should try and go after a few of the other British talk shows for there late nights (Alan Carr springs to mind).

In between 2 movies will not do this any favours. Hopefully it can just start at 8:30 every week. Needs stability.

  9. It won’t last on TEN, especially between two movies and with a start time that is bound to shake around 15mins to 30mins either side depending on the nights movies.

Plus – This is an ABC show, it doesn’t suit TENs other programming. Saturday night is a terrible night for it, plus with the addition of commercial breaks, it’s really going to be destroyed.

Hopefully it will be available on their website so we can stream it later on.

  10. Thanks for start date. I love The Graham Norton Show. Still annoyed that the ABC sold it. Hopefully TEN won’t ruin it. Also wouldn’t mind if they could repeat it on ELEVEN or ONE during the week.

  11. @Andrew – I’m wondering that if you didn’t watch it on Saturday (or Thursday) on the ABC before, why you’d suddenly start now? It certainly is a fun show. If you’re not doing anything at 10:15pm tomorrow you could have a look on ABC2 at what you’ve been missing and see if it’s really your thing. Guests include Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law, and Eddie Izzard.

  12. This is one of the few shows I watch on TV anymore. He is fantastic, like a ‘good’ version of Rove, with genuinely good and funny guests. I hope it works okay on Saturday nights on Ten….

  13. Well, those who enjoyed it on ABC2 should be able to easily find it on Ten. Ie, stop your whinging that it’s moving channel because the show isn’t changing. Just because it’ll have some ads between it, doesn’t make it different. It’s just like watching it on UKTV.

  14. @Paul – so true!!! What will 10 do when there are 4 guests on the couch and 3 of them are British national treasures that Australians have never heard of? I love the show but commercial tv tends to handle this kind of thing poorly.

  15. I don’t think it’s a very good idea for Ten to air it in between two movies. To me, it kind of gives the impression that they care more about the movies. They should find some other programming to put at 6:30 and 7:30. They should trial stuff like they have been doing a lot on Friday nights. Hopefully this year we get some more better stuff on the main channels on Saturday nights.

  16. Agree with Paul, we should run a sweep on how long it lasts before 10 changes its timeslot etc. Mind you Ch 9 would be guranteed to move it after the first week.

  17. I give it 2 to 3 weeks before it is moved to Eleven, ONE or disappears completely. Leaving those of us who enjoyed it on ABC 2, to be pretty annoyed.

  18. Having never watched his show while on the ABC the promo’s look good,I feel it’s something we need on a Saturday night for a change I.e:some real fun entertainment.
