Grant Bowler lands US lead role

The very versatile Grant Bowler (The Amazing Race Australia, True Blood, Ugly Betty, Lost, Border Security, Outrageous Fortune) has won the lead in Syfy’s new drama series Defiance, to be filmed in Canada.

Deadline reports the live-action drama, written/executive produced by Farscape creator Rockne S. O’Bannon.

Syfy’s president of original content Mark Stern said, “Grant’s charismatic charm and his depth as an actor make him the perfect anchor as we build the ensemble for this sweeping adventure series.”

Set on a future Earth, Defiance is set in a world where humans and aliens live together on a planet ravished by decades of war and transformed by alien terra-forming machines.

Bowler will play Jeb Nolan, the law keeper in a bustling frontier boomtown that is one of the new world’s few oasis of civility and inclusion.

Production begins in April in Toronto.

Great to see him still doing well (and getting more US roles) – long way from Mount Thomas Police Station!

(and The Mole with Grant was awesome!)

Sounds a little Firefly-esque with the booming frontier town vibe?

Grant hosts TARA which is usually filmed in late November and December.

Will this mean that he won’t be hosting The Amazing Race Australia this year or will production be finished by then?

I thought he did a great job as host last year. It’d be a shame if he had to be replaced.
