Hamish MacDonald cops a thump

TEN's Hamish MacDonald requires stitches after a Hyde Park beggar lets fly.

Sometimes we may feel a bit like slapping the person on the telly, but I don’t know who would want to thump TEN’s Hamish MacDonald.

But that’s what happened to the TEN presenter in Sydney’s Hyde Park on Monday.

MacDonald and a friend were subjected to a beggar but declined his request for money.

When the man then set about asking for money from a group of girls, MacDonald intervened.

“I walked over towards them and asked him to leave the girls alone and then he started chasing me and basically belted me in the mouth,” he tells News Limited.

MacDonald received two stitches to his mouth and the incident was reported to police.

“It is kind of ridiculous. I came out of Libya and Egypt unscathed and then I’m just minding my own business in the park and my teeth get knocked through my lip.”

Last year A Current Affair‘s Elise Mooney was assaulted while she was on assignment in Melbourne.

As they once said on Hill Street Blues, “And remember…. let’s be careful out there.”

  1. “he intervened and came to the aid of some girls”
According to him. At the BBC, I was taught to have two independent verifications before printing something as an alleged fact.

  2. The other famous Hill St Blues line was “Let’s do it to them before they do it to us..” Not suggesting that Hamish should have smacked him first of course….

  3. Not the face.. not his handsome face!!

I tend to agree with the others, if you go out looking for trouble then there’s a chance you’ll find it.

  4. actually..he wasnt just minding his own business…he intervened and came to the aid of some girls…thats not minding your own business…having said that it did not deserve a smack in the chops because of it
