Seven has upped the ante for Season Three of My Kitchen Rules by increasing the prize money from $100,000 to $250,000.

Pairs from around Australia will again compete in a battle of home-dining challenges and the MKR kitchen. This year “Simon & Meg” from New Zealand will compete in Group 1, with just one Tassie duo, “Megan & Andy” to appear in Group 2.

Joining hosts Manu Feildel and Pete Evans are guest judges Guy Grossi, Tobie Puttock, Karen Martini and Liz Egan.

Teams are as follows:

Group 1:
New South Wales – Steve & Helen (Siblings)
Western Australia – Angela & Justine (Teacher and Truckie)
South Australia – Leigh & Jennifer (Florist and Princess)
New Zealand – Simon & Meg (Kiwis)
Queensland – David & Scott (Soldier mates)
Victoria – Thomas & Carla (Just friends)

Group 2:
New South Wales – Sam & Jillian (Potential in-laws)
Western Australia – Emma & Andrew (Engaged scientists)
South Australia – Nic & Rocco (Childhood mates)
Tasmania – Megan & Andy (Sales Reps)
Queensland – Peter & Gary (Lawyer and Doctor)
Victoria – Carly & Emily (Competitive Sisters)

The money on offer for MKR matches some of the cash prize on other Seven Reality shows (Australia’s Got Talent, The Amazing Race Australia) and dwarfs the $100,000 that has been offered so far by MasterChef Australia.

  1. Who else is irritated by this ignorant/childish Princess who is so rude?

Does she actually know that Pete and Manu are real Chef’s?

    What are her cooking qualifications????

I am not able to watch comfortably, she is too embarrassing! May have to leave this season…….

  2. So will the Princesses “real” job be revealed that she is a chef- not a pr person to her cashed up huby who claims to have an online gambling business-please- the truth is required on this person

  3. I liked MasterChef S1 and S2. S3 was almost a Cooking show created by Big Brother himself. It’s like they lived in a Mansion and were asked to compete as potential chefs, only thing is they were being watched 24/7 and criticized for cheating, giving away too much information and renovating in the middle of finale night!

I said last year I’ll pass this course, but this time it sounds like a good dish that wants me to enjoy it.

Only problem is why one couple from TAS and one from NZ. Why not two TAS couples. The TAS people last series knew how to get fired up and cause a stir on websites such as this and Twitter.

Oh well watch the Tennis and see “Coming up After the Tennis”! And Yes that quote applies to other offerings for Seven in 2012.

  4. @ Izobel2, doesn’t sound like you’ve watched much of MKR. They cook way more than one meal. Also the contestants scores for each others meals are revealed to the viewer but not to the fellow contestants 🙂

  5. Geez people get too much cash for doing not much these days…. I mean don’t get me wrong I’ll watch the show, but the cash prize particularly for this show is way over the top. It only goes for a handful of weeks and you cook like one meal then sit on your behind eating and drinking other people’s meals and critisizing them for the rest of the week, then you score $250,000?? Also I hope they keep the contestants scores a secret this season so people don’t low ball each other so that they advance to the next round.

  6. Ch7 are a little bit concerned that 2012 will be the year kitchen drama will completely die after a softening of 2011 of Ch10’s cooking shows.

They are confident MKR will perform but this is an extra way to protect it.

  7. I don’t really follow MKR but am I right in saying that despite now being handed a larger cash prize, that MC winners have the potential to make far more money beyond the series? i.e book deals, tv shows…. Iron man? lol

  8. Ok i’m South Australian but even I can’t stand that girl in the first group. And since when is Princess a thing?

Anyway can’t wait for MKR. I’ve given up on Masterchef after last season so i won’t be watching that. It’s MKR all the way for me.
