Tomic takes on TEN’s Super Sunday

It's game on as Bernard Tomic and Roger Federer face off against TEN's Super Sunday of premieres.

TEN’s brash move to launch four of its key entertainment offerings for 2012 this Sunday just got bad news.

Bernard Tomic will take on Roger Federer in the fourth round of the Australian Open on Sunday.

The game is set to begin at 7pm AEDT and Seven has strategically scheduled its broadcast from 6:30pm -the same time that Young Talent Time premieres in the key markets of Sydney and Melbourne.

As well as high hopes for YTT, TEN needs Homeland viewers to tap into the layered storylines from the first episode.

While some observers have questioned TEN’s move in kicking off key shows three weeks before offical ratings resume, Monday morning’s ratings will give us the answer.

But any pain may not end there.

The Biggest Loser season premiere could face a Lleyton Hewitt match on Monday night.

Meanwhile, TEN may have a fan in Barack Obama if the Hollywood Reporter is an indicator.

It seems the US President is already a fan of Homeland and Modern Family and now he has written to New Girl‘s Zooey Deschanel on her 32nd birthday:

“As you celebrate this special occasion with your family and friends, please know I am grateful for all you have done to encourage and support young women who are making a difference across our country. I hope your day is filled with love and laughter, and I wish you all the best for good health and happiness in the year ahead.”

Don’t suppose he has an OzTAM people meter this weekend?

  1. daylan. why would you admit that. who did you talk to andwhy don’t you listen to true sports fans that thinks it’s a useless tool. sorry but you can sporut it as much as you like. like everyone at 7 seems to do rather than go for quality. it isn’t a good tool at all. if you want to be really good. get them make it available to the viewer

  2. The tennis has been great, in spite of the endless ads/Channel 7 promos for upcoming new shows/woeful commentators(Bruce McAveney & Jim Courier especially) and the blatant jingoistic waving the flag for Hewitt & Tomic.

  3. Col the plan is once the nalogue signal is turned off this will enable the the main channels to recreate their HD main channel. While keeping all of their digital channels in SD. i.e for seven by 2014 you will have 7, 7HD, 7TWO, and 7mate.

  4. The biggest problem thats yet to be brought up is regardless of whether its in HD or SD we only get to see one match at a time and of course highlights of the others in breaks. This antiquated system we have about the anti-siphoning laws is a joke. They have 3 main FTA channels they could easily show other matches on 7mate or 72 etc.Till this lame brain excuse is gotten rid of this will always be happening for the majority of sports.
Even when the analogue network is switched off i really cant see any changes unless a government with brains does exaxctly that.

  5. Mr chandler the mega wall was not introduced as a tool to compete against fox sports. It was a was designed as a fancy and clever graphic. To improve the quality of the presentation. Based on research conducted by the seven network 73% of sporting fans like it. I am quite upset at your dislike for it as I was on the team that came up with the concept.

  6. Dylan you’re kidding right. It’s. Useless tool that was brought in to try and compete withfox sports viewers choice. It ain’t competing with them

  7. btw I don’t think Seven’s 6.30 start is a late change to match YTT, their evening session on a Sunday night would have started at 6.30 anyway, straight after the news. TV Week had it listed as starting tomorrow night at 6.30 and that came out a week ago.

  8. Leckie must behaving a chuckle about this. Typical – anything can and does happen at the Aus Open! People will time shift 10 and watch the tennis live. It’s programming 101 and it will be embarrassing to Mott and Warbuton when the Sunday figures come in. Just plain dumb programming to go this soon with the new lineup. I will be fascinated to see if Homeland works here as well as the US because we are utterly over the “war on terror” and may not appreciate this propaganda.

  9. Ten would surely have slots already for replays on Super Sunday should the ratings not live up to expectations. Plus you can always watch the shows on Ten’s website if you wanted. They’ve been promoting the crap out of New Girl on Twitter and Facebook.

  10. other than the live sport. the coverage from 7 has been terrible. too much of a love fest over everything. hamish shouldn’t be on tv period and bruce has to retire now

  11. @Dylan and what way is the mega wall supposed to be used. it’s a useless tool. i have seen numerous times with empty boxes on it. if you can’t access it you shouldn’t be seeing it. also when are they going to stop missing the first game of every set

  12. for all the complaining. the seven network must be commended for its coverage of the Australian open. This year by far has been seven’s best coverage of a Australian open with live coverage from the open of play to close of play. their graphics are refreshing and they are using the mega wall concept the way it is suppose to be used. while it may not be in HD i am happy to sacrifice that for live coverage. Also big news for Adelaide and South Australian fans. AFL will be telecast live into Adelaide on Friday nights. there will no longer be a 30 minute delay.

  13. Hello! We don’t all watch tennis. I for one am switching ten on, I think their Sunday line up is really fun and I ain’t missing it. I’ll go online later that night and find out who’s won the tennis. That’ll do fine for me.
