Airdate: Bathurst 12 Hour 2012

SPEED is set to screen its first Live exclusive production of an Australian event.

This weekend SPEED screens the closing stages of the Bathurst 12 Hour, an ‘around the clock’ endurance Event that features international GT machinery from Ferrari, Mercedes, Porsche, Lamborghini and defending winners, Audi.

This will be the first time since 2007 the race has been broadcast Live and is the first Live exclusive production of an Australian event for the channel.

SPEED will carry the final 90 minutes of the race live following their coverage of the World Superbike Championships at Phillip Island which airs earlier in the day.

The broadcast is expected to commence at approximately 4:45pm on Sunday, February 26th and will proceed through live until the chequered flag at 6:15pm when the winners are decided.

Commentary will be provided by Aaron Noonan and Richard Craill – supported by several ‘guest’ drivers throughout the broadcast – with Grant Boyden reporting from Pit Lane.

“The Armor All Bathurst 12 Hour is fast becoming one of the premier endurance races on the motorsport calendar,” SPEED Channel Manager James Harrison said.

“It is an exciting development for SPEED to be involved in live coverage of the Event. February 26 is going to be a massive day of live motorsport on SPEED with the NASCAR Nationwide series race from Daytona, the World Superbikes from Phillip Island – and the Armor All Bathurst 12 Hour is the perfect way to cap off the day.”

Event director James O’Brien said the announcement was a step forward in growing the Armor All Bathurst 12 Hour for 2012.

“We have been targeting a live component on TV for some time and we are thrilled to be working with the SPEED Australia team next year,” Event Director James O’Brien said.

“In just one full year of broadcasting SPEED has established itself as the place for motorsports in Australia, so there is no better place than SPEED for the Armor All Bathurst 12 Hour to go live for the first time in the current era.

“This announcement takes the Event to a new level with live coverage complimenting the post-produced show to give competitors excellent exposure.

“The fact SPEED will cross directly from their live coverage of the popular World Superbike championship round at Phillip Island to Mount Panorama for the closing stages of the Armor All Bathurst 12 Hour shows their commitment to the Event.

“SPEED’s live broadcast will showcase what we expect to be a dramatic conclusion to a race that is looking to have a strong field representing teams from Australia and around the world.

4:45pm on Sunday, February 26th.

  1. @ Secret Squirrel. Totally agree with you this would and is perfect for ONE. However the idiots at Ten are not interested in the lesser sports if they are interested in sports at all. They are only interested in big time sports well i guess its nice to see that all their cost cutting will be spent buying up two of the four biggest sports in this country.

  2. This is exactly the sort of thing that I had expected to see on One when it was a sports channel. It wasn’t going to get big numbers but not a lot did.

One have The Isle of Man TT and I would have thought that this would rate higher. Besides, what else do they have for a Sunday afternoon? IFISH, L.A. Hard Hats, E-Force? Puh-lease.
