Former Spice Girl Mel B will co-host Dancing with the Stars for the Seven Network.

The X Factor judge, understood to be spending more time with family relocated to Australia, has beaten local competition including rumoured names Fifi Box and Natalie Bassingthwaighte for the role.

Mel B impressed with her candour on last year’s X Factor, a quality that Sonia Kruger also brought to the show.

She also competed in the US version of the show.

  1. If Mel B is involved with the Dancing With the stars program, not only will I but every member of my family and every one of my friends who now know about this, will not watch this show. Her voice is like fingernails on a blackboard plus her speech reeks of ignorance, I have banned my children from watching TV at the times her anti fat ad is on because they are now trying to use her slovenly speech, much to my horror. I spend thousands of dollars a term for my children to go to private school where they are expected to learn English and speak properly, then she opens her mouth and out comes the worst English I have ever heard. She is a very bad example to have involved in a family show. Besides why can’t Australians do this job. Nat would have made a great job of it. Noway Channel 7 … U R Wrong Wrong Wrong here, and low down in my opino of what u r doing having her on the show. Bad call … Bad English … Bad example.

  2. I like it i thoroughly enjoyed Mel B on the X Factor, i will give Dancing another shot now that she is on it, i know it sounds indulgent but i dont much like the other celebs on the show.

  3. @Guy I did see a US article discussing MelB as a good possibility. Beyonce would be terrible, she’s too concerned with maintaining her image to offer any criticism, constructive or otherwise.

  4. absolutely brilliant(and wise) choice for co host of an ailing series. mel will bring a spark which oz celeb hosts simply do not have. thiumbs up to seven for their inspired casting

  5. @Belinda

No Simon had bigger stats in mind. It’s reported Beyonce has been offered a $500m 5 year deal.

I think she is a great addition to DWTS. For all of you saying what about an Aussie well the truth is there isn’t really anyone out there. Nat and Fifi are good but I can’t stand either of them. Besides them there isnt really anyone and Mel brings the star power to the show. I think she will be better than Sonia. I think Mel is a great choice and she will give it to the judges I am sure. I can see the Mel v Todd v Josh showdown now.

  6. It seems that more and more Australian reality series have internationally known celebrities in them to try and increase their popularity. The list includes: Australian Idol had guest judges weekly that were usually American, Big Brother Australia had Pamela Anderson in the house for a week, more recent examples include K-Fed on Excess Baggage, The Voice is set to have Joel Madden and Seal as judges, X Factor has Ronan Keating and Mel B, and Australia’s Got Talent has Brian McFadden. It does bring more appeal to a show having an internationally acclaimed artist on a show, but when there is an outcry for Australian work I don’t know if it is great to have so much of it. Why not one of the winners of SYTYCD, or even host Matt Lee (who was one of the choreographers for the movie Happy Feet and also the stage show Mary Poppins)?
