Oops. Nine News update accidentally aired before it was ready.

A Nine News update in Perth recently went to air too soon, accidentally showing the presenter getting ready for the spot.

A Nine News update in Perth recently went to air a few minutes before it was ready, showing the presenter preparing for the spot.

The camera wasn’t ready either, chopping off her head from view.

“How long have we got Bonnie?” she asks …..before almost dropping a much stronger word?

After seeing the preparation, viewers then got to see the correct update, with theme music and the more professional greeting. Phew!

  1. Sorry, but is no one working in TV presentation told to self-censor as soon as they are wired to a mic anymore?? I know theory is one thing, and practice another – but you should Always be on alert whenever you are near a mic, open or otherwise.

  2. Dear Armchair Analyst,
    1) It’s presentation’s job tho tell them when they’re on air, generally via a floor manager
    2) Cameras rolling?? The camera goes through a studio and then live to presentation and then on-air or a recorder
Every newsreader is required to check hair and make-up on camera and so arrive early for breaks. It’s standard practice everywhere.

  3. I agree with Australian Television Archive, in these days things get to air that are (a) out of date (b) mistakes and evrything seems to come from this new fancy switching centre, one wonders if there is a real person there at all or just computers running the whole show like most of commercial radio stations after 6.00 pm of an evening.

  4. lots of uninformed comment here probably from ppl who have not been within block of a TV studio. Yes folks, presenters do get ready. FYI they dont sit there all day and magically appear to read at 6pm…you knew that right??? right ??
And FYI AA and ATA… cameras dont “Roll” anymore, and Presentation puts up the “slide” now…its 2012…not 1971.

  5. Ease up jimbo stick to getting your tipping contest right this year its not that hard losing teams annouced as winners??? bit slow on the uptake jimbo?? duh

  6. @ Kenny. Totally agree one of the first rules of media training is or should be to assume the camera is rolling and the lapel mic is on and most imoportantly be ready for the broadcast, something she clearly forgot although even the best of them have these boopers now and again.

  7. What on Earth is she wearing? She gives ABC News Melbourne’s Tamara O’Dyne a run for her money in the appalling dress sense category. That poor girl, clearly no mirrors at the ABC.

  8. It makes you wonder how often they swear when they know they’re *not* on-air. Just more evidence on how many bogans work for commercial networks.

    Thanks MediaHub!

  9. in days gone by, there was usually someone in master control overlooking what was going to the transmitter and if anything found its way through that shouldnt, a test slide or breakdown caption could be quickly placed to stop it getting to air…however it seems more and more as if nobody is actually monitoring anything and computers are running the whole show

  10. Anyone spotted Kate Collins on Nine News Adelaide last night reading about Superbowl Ads and soon after showing David Beckham in undies they crossed to her and was busted drooling away haha!
