The Love Boat to sail into Sydney

The Love Boat soon will be making another run, and Gavin MacLeod is coming with it.

“Love, exciting and new…. come aboard, we’re expecting yooooooo….”

The Love Boat, otherwise known as the Pacific Princess, is due to arrive in Sydney Harbour on Sunday -although strictly speaking it’s not the original vessel.

But none other than Gavin MacLeod is coming with it.

MacLeod, who played’ Captain Merrill Stubing’ in the series which aired from 1977 – 1986, is now a spokesperson for Princess Cruises.

MacLeod joined the Pacific Princess from Auckland to Sydney as a guest speaker, sharing tales of the series. Nice work for a retired actor if you can get it.

It should be noted that this Pacific Princess is different vessel to the one that featured in the Aaron Spelling series. Wikipedia notes the original ship made its final voyage with Princess Cruises in 2002, but continued as a cruiser in the Caribbean, also sailing from Brazil and Spain. It was last seized by the Italian Coast Guard for a repair bill and has been laid up in the port of Genoa for over two years.

The new Pacific Princess sails from ports including Fort Lauderdale, Rome and Athens. A 107 day World Cruise in 2013 will set you back a cool $30,154.

Set a course for adventure, your mind on a very expensive romance?

  1. The Island Princess is the twin ship, now named Discovery was in Brisbane last weekend.

The Sun Princess was used in the 1998 Love Boat: The Next Wave and has been based in Australia for the last few years and mostly cruises out of Brisbane.
