  1. P.S. Are your swimming only three days long then? Ours are the full week mirroring the Olympic schedule and have been pretty decent viewing so far.

  2. Practice is practice though and has no place on TV – it’s only there because F1 are trying to make their limited offerings look a bit more (like the ridiculous coverage of “testing” too) and because the BBC and Sky had the streams to cover it – even if the BBC did sometimes choose F1 practice over actual sporting competition.

As for Foxtel – if Foxtel wanted it they could probably get it and F1 is far more suited to pay TV than commercial TV in that it’s an exclusive sport with little national interest. I’d hope though rather than the 50/50 deal the BBC and Sky have done they’d do something like Foxtel get everything live while the FTA broadcasters gets all the races live and qualifying highlights. That keeps the important stuff FTA but gives Foxtel enough exclusively to make it worth their while – especially if they can offer the races themselves ad free.

  3. @blazza18 – Oh well they just missed 1 or 2….. oops…. I’m sure that would be a perfectly acceptable excuse if we were talking about NRL or AFL… not

My main point was about practise anyway…. Ten & One have the rights to that practise but they choose not to show it…. instead they show cops, whose line is it anyway & MASH (looking at tonights tv guide). All i was purely saying was it would be nice to see them treat the sport with more respect…. there are 4hrs of practise that we in Australia miss every race weekend…. just because Channel Ten chooses to show stupid reruns.

and as for your comment about “not many people want to watch practise sessions”….its a bit hard to judge when there is no way to watch the sessions…. Only race all session they televise is the Aussie GP

  4. Forgive me if im wrong but im 95% sure One had every Qualifying session live last year , they could of missed 1 or 2 but at least every race was live.

  5. @Maev….Sydney – I am just annoyed with the way that OneHD treats F1. They have had the IPTV rights to the sports for a few years now and they still just simulcast what is shown on TV…. Why not be innovative like other networks around the world. Sky (UK) are going to have a dedicated channel for god sake!! OneHD do an awesome job of the Aussie GP but the rest of the year sucks!! And switching in and out of thereal commentators with the Aussie “Commentators” is a joke…. Go commercial free if the feed you are using is also commercial free, too much of the commentary is missing. I just know as much as some people dont like Foxtel they would do a better job! But until them i will just keep watching online.

@blazza18 – That might be your opinion. But in mine they dont do a very good job at all.. Hence last year showing the AFL on 2 channels at the same time and delaying the qualifying of the F1… yeah thats treating it really well. And i know more about F1 in my left foot than Greg Rust knows about the sport… Speaking of Practise tho. I for 1 love watching the practise sessions. And i dont see how they cant fit in between the reruns of other shows they are showing…. or like i said above put it online like the BBC do in the UK.

@Linkin-Phoenix – I dont have money raining down on me. But i can afford the basic package on foxtel… im not that cheap. But that really wasnt my point…. Id prefer to pay someone to do the sport right than to get something sub-standard for free.

You can see it mentioned by Brundle on Twitter a few weeks ago – I don’t know if Ten have officially confirmed it yet.

  7. Are both events going to be shown Live in to Adelaide David either on ONE or Ten? On another note i cant see Australia keeping the F1 for much longer i dont think the Victorian Govt will keep subsiding it after this current contract. Us Adelaideans are laughing our asses off at this sucked in Melbourne

  8. @Ed- Where did that info come from? I hope it’s right however I’d like to know the source before I believe it.

    @William- Cheers.

@JM- Well bully for you, that may suit you, however the rest of us who don’t have money raining down on them prefer F1 to be free-to-air so we can all watch it.

  9. One has been contracted to show the Australian Grand Prix from Friday- Sunday while Ten remains the same and in HD for both networks. This will be bad if One doesn’t air FP1 or FP2 I was really looking forward to seeing it

  10. JM.
Ones telecast of the F1 is pretty good and they do treat it pretty good. not many people want to watch practice sessions hence why one wont show it. Live qualifying and races are all they need to do.

  11. @ JM….I really do not care…who is commentating….I am more interested in what I can see on the track…and comments between teams and drivers….
    And Foxtel may suit you…but not many…like me…have it…or want it….

  12. Have they announced which commentary team they will be using for the F1? BBC or SKY?

I wish they would give the rights of the F1 to Foxtel…. Its a paining having to watch all the sessions live online through a VPN.
