rage turning 25

rage is turning 25 and it wants to include your memories in a Silver Jubilee show.

rage is turning 25 and on April 21 it will mark the occasion as Tim Rogers remembers the music legends who have hung out on the rage red couch,  unforgettable videos and memories from both prominent Australians and the TV audience.

The ABC show also wants to include your memories in the show, and asks fans to update their Facebook status and tag @rage, or tweet including the #ragememories tag, or hit the messageboard with a comment.

We’ve all vegged out to rage at one time or another. Time to give a little lovin’ back.

  1. This should really air at a much earlier timeslot like at 8.30 pm on ABC2, rather than its usual late timelsot on ABC1.

I agree they should bring the videos of the weekly Top 50, but probably on ABC2 in the mornings, insteadf of their kids far.

  2. Rage was one of the first programs when the ABC experimented with a 24 hour programming. I remember the first night Rage aired and thought back then this will last a long time.

For those that want the top 50 back sadly this will never happen. It was axed due to ARIA wanting more money and going commercial. Sacrifice of the digital generation I’m afraid

  3. Congratulations to rage for making it to 25 years. It’s a great milestone in television. It’s a testament to the ABC making sure there is enough broadcast space for the musical arts. In terms of their programming, It seems about 80% of their guest programmers are indie artists and now that Video Hits has gone, there’s certainly a void that can be filled there.

  4. I remember being about 7 or 8 (late 80’s) and at various times being able to stay up very late to watch the start of Rage, or waking up early and seeing the end of it. I always felt like I was being pulled into another dimension weird the weird and wonderful Rage intro/outros.

Over the years Rage became a companion to me during those long nights staying up during school holidays in the 90s, playing all these (to me) obscure videos by obscure bands. Rage got me into Elvis Costello, one of my favourite performers today.

My only wish is that one could go back and play some of the co-hosted episodes again. I’d love to see the episode that TISM hosted, where the some of the videos they chose included the intros to 4 Corners and the 7:30 Report.

And I think me like a lot of people would love the opportunity to guest program Rage, and in the very least to peruse those extensive video archives!

  5. When I arrived in Australia in 1995, my first Rage was a Kylie marathon which I hated. However next week was a New Order marathon (my have band ever) and I’ve been watching ever since. Happy birthday, Rage!

  6. Still remember the first night of rage,I was in Lismore for the NSW Modified production Championship on the Easter weekend and had just started work as a Record Rep.
I remember thinking to myself I hope this lasts as the Iggy pop wild one theme resonated thoughout the Motel, that was one hell of a night and congratulation to the ABC for letting it run for the last 25 years.

  7. I’ve always loved the show and hope it goes for another 25 years. I have fond memories of the Top 50 and of staying up to watch the show in the obscure hours to the point where I would get migraines during the daytime due to lack of sleep. I’m an absolute music video fanatic & Rage has been the keystone to my musical life. The only thing I dislike about Rage is that though they have showed just about every music video released & they try to maintain some variety, it has had an arrogant overly indie-centric focus due to what seems to be the inclination of the programmers themselves, to the detriment of genres that are more widely liked.

  8. My memories of Rage were as a kid waking up early every Saturday morning to watch the Top 50 countdown. I remember being devasted when i woke up, turned the tv on and it was at #42, thinking damn i wish i’d woken up 20 mins earlier.

Then Rage axed the top 50 and i haven’t watched it since. So enjoy your birthday Rage. I used to love ya. But then you broke my heart. Bring back the top 50 and i may just start watching again.
