SBS secures UEFA Euro 2012

SBS will show eight matches of the UEFA European Football Championship 2012, including four live finals.

SBS has secured the free-to-air TV broadcast rights for UEFA European Football Championship 2012 and will show eight matches, including four live finals.

The live matches include the final on Monday 2nd July 2012, plus one semi-final and two quarter-finals.

The remaining four matches shown will be delayed group stage games including the opening match between Poland and Greece plus Spain v Italy, France v England and Netherlands v Germany. SBS will also show matchday highlights at 5:30pm on SBS ONE.

“SBS is proud to once again bring our audiences the very best in world football, live and on free-to-air TV,” says Ken Shipp, Head of Sport at SBS. “Our coverage of UEFA Euro 2012, including the live broadcast of the final, means all Australians can follow this prestigious tournament.”

Coverage will be hosted by The World Game’s Les Murray and David Basheer with analysis from Craig Foster and David Zdrilic. Martin Tyler will provide commentary for all eight games while SBS reporter Vitor Sobral will be on the ground in Poland and Ukraine.

The 2012 event will be held in Poland and Ukraine from 8th June 2012.

  1. This sounds great but i would have liked to hear that all of the matches that they will cover will be live nationwide. Still its great that the Euro 2012 is on SBS the home of the World Game.

  2. happy to see SBS cover some of the Euro Championship live this year. Sure, it’s not many games (compared to the coverage Foxtel will be doing), but at least it’s better than nothing. And SBS knows how to run soccer, compared to the other FTA channels 🙂
