Web-only future for Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome

A leaked trailer for the Battlestar Galactica prequel looks impressive, but it is primed as a web-based series only.

The proposed prequel for Battlestar Galactica, Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome, is no longer a TV project, but may survive as a web-based series.

This is despite an impressive looking trailer that was leaked last week for the project, set 20 years after Caprica and roughly 40 years before Galactica.

The unsanctioned trailer was removed from YouTube (but you can still see it at Gizmodo).

Syfy President of Original Content Mark Stern said in a statement, “Though the vision for Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome has evolved over the course of the past year, our enthusiasm for this ambitious project has not waned. We are actively pursuing it as was originally intended: a groundbreaking digital series that will launch to audiences beyond the scope of a television screen.”

Shame! That trailer is slick stuff…

  1. Syfy should actually leave this alone and give it to a network that will actually give a damn like Showtime (AMC and HBO don’t do this kind of Sci-Fi, sadly).

The interesting thing is that if it was marketed and run properly, the show could be an interesting ‘first’ example of a web series to determine its success. Let’s face it, people who are watching it are Internet savvy anyway.

  2. Loved BG but thought Caprica sucked more than just a little. This did look good but I have a poor history of bothering with other solely, web-based content.
