2012 Logie Awards: winners

Hugh Sheridan, Asher Keddie, Adam Hills, Bondi Rescue, The Block are amongst winners at the 54th TV Week Logie Awards.

The stars have gathered at Crown Palladium for the 54th TV Week Logie Awards.

One Direction opened the Red Carpet with an ear-piercing performance as security battled to keep the hordes contained. This year media and stars struggled to be heard in pre-show interviews as fans of the UK boyband squealed their enthusiasm. Television’s “night of nights” threatened to be upstaged by pop music.

But the ceremony eventually got underway.

Flo Rida opened with Get a Good Feeling, the song that Young Talent Time used for all its promos. Nice plug. The room certainly was buoyant with Flo Rida even coaxing Sonia Kruger dancing.

Adam Hills was the first presenter, mimicking Angelina Jolie’s Academy Awards pose. Hills let fly with plenty of gags about One Direction, The Shire, Gina Rinehart, and Brynne Edelsten (why isn’t he hosting the show?).

    Hmmm…

Best Non-Animated or Mixed Series (Kids) award 2011 and 2012 Kidscreen Awards
2012 AACTA Award For Best Children’s Television Series
Best Children’s Programme, Asian TV Awards
2011 AWGIE Award for Children’s Television C Classification
Best Television Theme, 2010 Screen Music Awards

    and now

Most Outstanding Children’s Program, 2012 Logie Awards.

    Says it all, really.

  2. @David- I didn’t mean the website, I can see that it’s been updated. I meant that you’ve been quiet with your opinion. Often when there’s a big story you normally leave your thoughts in the comments section (and personally, that’s something I really enjoy reading), hence why I provided some questions. No matter…

  3. You’re awfully quiet David! Surely you have some thoughts on this night and the numerous issues that people have raised- do you think network campaigns have played a big part in “wins”? Was the cross-promotion too much? Did a lack of host help or hinder the flow? Did you think it ran too long? Was that Flo Rida opening number the worst filming you’ve seen in a long time? Is the sparkly diamonty set too tacky? Fixes for next year?

  4. What was with the Sydney newsreader running ahead of the Melbourne newsreader and leaving the Brisbane newsreader third, to grab the Logie for The Queensland Floods coverage. Almost all of the material Sydney & Melbourne got was from QTQ9. Quite rude, Overton.

  5. Turned over after Waking the Dead to see the farce award known as Most Popular Sports Program going to the AFL Grand Final !!! Don’t get me wrong. I lave AFL but like several posters have already pointed out, this is an event, like the Melb Cup, Bathurst 1000; Tour de France et al (that were nominated in the next category), Most Outstanding Sports Coverage. I was completely mystified until the winner of the latter category was announced – Ch9’s State of Origin III – As Ray Warren pointed out, this was the first time NRL had won in this category. The organisers need to explain this!

  6. Loved seeing Prue and Tru again – I don’t think a lot of people ‘get’ them, specially those they’re lampooning. But the ladies of Toorak and Double Bay do speak like that!

  7. I agree with a lot of the comments here. I have been watching Logies since 1977, and this one was very reminiscent of Logies of old – overlong, very much favouring the network that hosted it – some of the choices were odd – but so too were some of the prestigious ones – Asher Keddie,m bizarrely still hasn’t won an outstanding logies – after multiple nominations – if she couldn’t win in a year with two amazing performances???? Melissa George? It was marvellous that Rob Carlton won, although i thought Alex would nab it for The Slap. The Gold Logie again is becoming a platform for fanbases – perhaps it always was – Ray Martin used to joke that his team and family would buy truckloads of tv week and send in the coupons – or else how could he win (humbly said). Now with multi media voting – it is not terribly representative. How a 10 week series co-presenter can win over Hills (2 shows – 1 on air for 40 weeks), Bickmore (50 weeks) Stefanovic (50 weeks) Keddie (13 +2) Anderson (48) is odd. But the people have spoken – I like Hamish – and his speech. But yeah the Logies awards system and the telecast production leave a lot to be desired. Do we need so many foreign acts to perform? Cultural cringe!!!

  8. I stopped watching The Logie Awards years ago. I came home this morning…checked on the net who won in 2 minutes…had I watched it I would have had to sit thru 5 hrs of dribble to find out who won!!! No I’m not that delusional!!

  9. I have never watched The Logies as I never watch award shows, but I read this article with interest. My goodness, what terrible results, if anything proves the Logies voting methodology needs to be scrapped, this does.

    1. Hamish Blake’s Logie was purchased by Nine. No way in hell should anyone, from the presenters to the gaffer tape guy, be nominated for anything to do with Hamish and Andy’s Gap Year. It was a ratings flop and utterly dismal to boot. Absolutely ridiculous outcome, what a complete joke.

    2. The Block won out over MKR and Masterchef. Really?????????

    3. I agree with other posters, since when is the AFL Grand Final a sports “program”? The Footy Show is a sports program, Before the Game is a sports program, the Grand Final of any code is coverage of a major sporting event. There is a difference. This anomaly, which is glaringly obvious even to Blind Freddie, needs to be fixed, pronto.

    4. Considering the woeful last couple of seasons, the ho-hum acting performances and the ever declining ratings, Rafters probably should not have won best drama.

  10. I stopped watching it when the leak about Hamish broke out. What a horrible event. I won’t be watching it next year. What’s the point of it anyways?

  11. The worst thing about the whole broadcast was the length the TV Guide (which it seems doesn’t broadcast to unusual times unless its 7.35pm) said it was 11.30. Usually it only runs half an hour over the TV Guide time. The EPG said midnight but come on that was ridiculous 12.30!

I personally didn’t have a problem with the Block win based on last year it was super popular. However I personally didn’t like the Hamish and Andy win or the Hamish Gold win
