60 Minutes under fire over interview

The father of Caroline Byrne has slammed 60 Minutes for reportedly paying Gordon Wood for an interview.

Tony Byrne, the father of Caroline Byrne, has slammed 60 Minutes for reportedly paying Gordon Wood for an interview, tipped by the Daily Telegraph to be some $200,000.

Wood was convicted of murder and spent 3 years in prison, but the conviction was overturned in February and he was released.

The story was depicted in the telemovie A Model Daughter: The Killing of Caroline Byrne.

But Byrne claims he was lied about a month ago when he asked if the show was planning to interview Wood.

“I can only label their actions unconscionable,” Byrne, 76, told the newspaper.

The interview is expected to air this Sunday night.

Nine has neither confirm nor denied paying for the interview.

  1. Its absolutely disgusting nothing new for nine they are famous for their cheque book journalism. Its so unprofessional of nine.. Thats why i never watch 60 minutes or ACA. Poor form

  2. I can understand Mr. Byrne being upset, but 60 Minutes do not have to answer to him. I am interested to see the story and whether it reveals any more information about the case. From what I have seen and read so far, the evidence against Wood was all circumstantial. Probably one of those cases where we will never really know what happened.

  3. Whilst not a fan of “chequebook journalism”, I don’t see anything wrong with paying the guy for his story. Altho’ I bet the amount is only about half what the Telegraph claims it to be.
