The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has fined Foxtel $46,200 for misleading advertising.
Last year’s ‘Christmas Sale’ campaign advertised a Foxtel subscription for $55 per month on a six-month contract.
But the ad carried an asterisk which indicated the customer would be locked into a 12-month contract, rising to $77 per month after the six-month deal had concluded.
ACCC chairman Rod Sims said: “The inclusion of an asterisk or a fine print disclaimer does not remove the potential for a headline to be misleading. Companies must ensure that they do not use misleading headlines about the price and other key terms and conditions of the services being offered.
“It is not enough for a company to try to correct a misleading headline using fine print text.”
ACCC recently indicated it would not object to Foxtel’s bid to takeover Austar.

How is this misleading?
This is the ad that I used to join foxtel again after purchasing a new house.
it clearly states that after 6 months the price will change…. the discount only applies to the basic package, and only for 6 month, and states that you enter a 12 month contract.
how is this misleading????
stupid ppl getting “duped” are the ones complaining
How about they fine Win TV for advertising that the test last night was live. Disgraceful.
Are they going to get done for their ‘every game in brilliant HD’ fibs too?
Is that all? Wow Foxtel will be shaking in their boots. It should have had 3 more 000’s
Maybe they can fine a certain FTA network for saying ONE is the home of Formula One then moving it to TEN. LOL
Half the ads on tv are misleading.
Only $46,000, they find that in the petty cash tin
Very refreshing – good on you ACCC.
I wish the fine was about Tv and not the misleading advertising a product! Hello viewers are misled every day!!!!!
