Airdate: La Traviata

STUDIO will feature the world premiere of Opera Australia’s ambitious project, Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour: La Traviata just three weeks after being recorded live.

This outdoor production of La Traviata is set against the backdrop of Sydney Harbour.

Performed on a purpose-built stage in the Royal Botanic Gardens, Opera Australia’s La Traviata is a monumental performance featuring a full orchestra, dazzling effects and a 9 x 9 metre glittering chandelier suspended above the stage.

Starring in the performance screening on STUDIO are soprano Emma Matthews as Violetta, tenor Gianluca Terranova as Alfredo and Jonathan Summers as Giorgio Germont.

Credits on the Opera Australia production include stage director Francesca Zambello, set designer Brian Thomson and costume designer Tess Schofield. The Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra is conducted by Brian Castles-Onion from a water-tight sound studio built beneath the stage.

Audiences watched the live performance from a 3000 seat grandstand on the water’s edge of Sydney Harbour.
