This doco looks at the dark side of the internet and actual murders that began in the online world.

The C&I Network will screen the Australian Premiere of a documentary that looks at the dark side of the internet and actual murders that began in the online world.

Murder on the Social Network focusses chiefly on the case of Vicky Roberts, a bride of five months, who was strangled by her husband after she discovered he was using Facebook to conduct numerous affairs before and after he tied the knot.

Social networking is the 21st century phenomenon, with millions across the globe using it to keep in touch, make new friends and spark new relationships. But what happens when things go wrong – when it exposes users to jealousy, deceit and rage? A growing number of online relationships, it appears, are ending in real-life conflicts.

This film highlights a number of disturbing cases, which demonstrate that there is a dark side to social networking, which can end in murder. From secret affairs and jealous ex-partners to deviant cyber-stalkers, the online world can be a lethal tool for those who choose to abuse it. With stories of broken marriages and bitter feuds, we lift the lid on how internet relationships can spiral out of control.

With the help of a leading criminal psychologist, police investigators and surviving family members, Murder on the Social Network examines the chilling reality of murders that began in the online world.

Wednesday April 18 at 9.30pm.
