  1. A Showcase spokesperson tells TV Tonight:
HBO will not release transmission material until after the US broadcast.

10pm Sunday in the US is our Monday afternoon.

The broadcast material is now file delivered and there is a finite time for download as these HD files are very large.

The files have to then be Quality Assessed and prepared for broadcast.

Game Of Thrones is a show that pushes boundaries with some episodes classified R. Under Federal legislation Foxtel would be in breach of its licence if it showed R material so this show cannot be broadcast until it has been classified.

The episodes have to be subtitled for the hearing impaired and this is an external process.

The files have to be then sent to Foxtel and ingested into their broadcast server.

The slot for Game of Thrones has always been Tuesday and as a 1 day turn-around is impossible the show is broadcast on the week following.

  2. Garbage, there has been 10 different promos available online for months… Not one… Besides they would have had enough material from last year to build a campaign around. Networks manage to promote shows without a frame of vision of actual program all the time let alone a whole series…

    1. Again trailers are not the sole source of a series campaign. How do you send around previews for critic reviews from a trailer to print, online and radio contacts? How do you book print ads from a trailer? You also don’t plug a new series by rerunning old content. Showtime has brought forward the series from its usual delay to acknowledge viewer demands.

  3. I agree…. Australian networks need to learn that people aren’t going to wait for them. I don’t know a single fan of the show (all of whom have Foxtel) that hasn’t already watched this episode, or the second episode. And considering the second episode was leaked early, then it’s not as if they are throwing these in the can at the last minute. They should be getting the American trailers and using those. Or really, when you have such a big show with so much buzz do you even need to show a billion ads? Just slap one together with old footage and say “straight off the satellite” people aren’t dumb

  4. C’mon David. Even you posted a teaser in January and a trailer on March 22. There’s no valid reason Showcase couldn’t have shown some respect for their paying customers and started the new season last Monday or Tuesday.

    1. There are several possible reasons, including having adequate access to materials to promote the show. Not much point screening it if you haven’t been able to put together a marketing campaign with video, images, reviews, etc.
