Gold Logie showdown: Asher Keddie

"I like all of them!" Asher Keddie admits of her Gold Logie rivals. "I just can’t make any comparison between any of us."

Part Two of TV Tonight‘s interviews with Gold Logie nominees is with Asher Keddie.

This is Keddie’s second nod for the Gold, and follows a very successful year in TEN’s Offspring and ABC’s Paper Giants. Australia loves their golden girls, will it be Asher this year?

How do you rate your chances?
“I don’t know. I look at the field of people who are nominated this year and I like all of them! People like Hamish and Adam I have the greatest respect for. I think we all do something different in our respective fields as well. I just can’t make any comparison between any of us. Once again I don’t entirely understand what getting a Gold Logie means. I hope to God it’s because people have really enjoyed the projects I’ve done in the last couple of years.”

Who is your main competition?
“Adam Hills.”

Who is the dark horse?
“Probably Hamish. Maybe it’s Carrie. I don’t know. I’m dreadful at picking these things, I have no idea!”

What does it mean to win a Logie?
“I just feel so encouraged that our audience so into embracing a show that has such a point of difference as ours. I think that’s so encouraging. It’s a show I really believe in and I think it’s not always easy to watch because there are so fairly confronting and alternative ideas, albeit with humour. So I’m hoping being nominated for a Gold Logie means people enjoy that kind of work that I’ve been doing and the sometimes-not-easy-to-watch characters that I’ve been playing. So it’s a nice pat on the back. And Ita’s not always easy to watch either, and that’s what makes her captivating, I guess.”

What was your highlight for 2011’s TV year?
“All of it seems like a highlight to me. I really couldn’t be happier about the way things have evolved over the last two years. I feel there is a lot of warmth out there and people have been so great to me in 2011. So I guess the highlight is that I feel so embraced for the work that I work very hard on.”

Why should viewers vote for you?
“Because I’m one of only two actors in the field?”

NEXT: Hamish Blake.

  1. I’m with Asher – i don’t entirely get what the Gold Logie is – most popular personality – historically it has gone to a mix of performers, presenters and actors, even journos. The way i most regard this category is the entertainer – Graham, Bert, Denise, Daryl. When Lisa McCune won it several times, it seemed to go into different territory – although actors like Gerard Kennedy and Rowena Wallace had won – mostly it had been light entertainment stars that prevailed. But in recent years mostly actors – that is why Karl was such a surprise – at least to me! What you get with presenters and hosts is still an act, but more of who they are than actors playing a role. Asher Keddie is one fine actor, but not much of a personality – her work is to be admired and rewarded, but as a personality – Adam Hills, Hamish Blake, Carrie Bickmore are able to display more of who they are – and audiences evidently like that too. But i can’t predict this category any more.

  2. She is the clear front runner for me. The thing is i am not voting for her for Offspring but because of her stellar performance in Paper Giants. I personally don’t like Offspring and TEN have made out that she is nominated for that. I know a lot of people who voted for her, voted her for Paper Giants as well. I know its popular personality and all but yeah thats my reasons. Either way she is a fantastic actress and i really hope she gets the nod over Karl up himself.
