EXCLUSIVE: In a stunning move to try and attract younger viewers, TV Week organisers have signed Kyle and Jackie O as host of the 54th Logie Awards.
The controversial pair, fresh from a breach of the Commercial Radio Code of Conduct, are planning to use the night as a ‘mea culpa’ with the industry and demonstrate they can help make TV’s ‘Night of Nights’ a success story.
“Logies nights have always had a way of getting people talking,” a source told TV Tonight, “whether its Bert & Muhammed Ali, Karl getting tipsy or kd lang singing up a storm. We think nabbing Kyle & Jackie O will be a win / win. Everybody will be on the edge of their seats!”
Organisers aren’t fazed by the terrible ratings for Kyle & Jackie O’s Night with the Stars, pointing to the awards’ longevity with the public.
But the move is already attracting criticism with an online campaign due to launch, calling on sponsors to cancel their support for the Logies.
Holden, GIO Insurance, Telstra, Mazda, Toys R Us, Qantas and Mitsubishi were all said to be scrambling to withdraw sponsorship of the Logies, fearing a similar backlash from the one that engulfed radio station 2DAY FM.
Last week the media watchdog The Australian Communications and Media Authority declared unprecedented rules for the radio station in the wake of Sandilands’ “fat slag” comments against journalist Alison Stephenson. But the rules don’t apply to Sandilands’ TV appearances on either Australia’s Got Talent or the Logies.
Asked whether he approved of Sandilands as Logies host, ACMA Chairman Chris Chapman said, “What I think of the Logies host is irrelevant.”
Communications Minister Stephen Conroy said broadcasting rules for choosing Logies hosts would have to be beefed up in the wake of the decision by TV Week.
“Fines would fall into that category. I’d give that serious Logies consideration,” he said.
Magda Szubanski, who was the target of an earlier Sandilands’ barb, tweeted that the choice was “Enough to make me go back in the closet.”
Yumi Stynes tweeted that “Jackie O is the Kiss of Death. They should have asked me and Corporal Roberts-Smith to host!”
George Negus dismissed the idea, before adding that Kyle was “probably a dud root anyway.”
But 2011 Gold Logie winner Karl Stefanovic was in favour of the idea.
“I’ll drink to that!” he joked.

Thank God it’s just an April Fool’s Joke 😀
lol thanks David you got me! Good one.
Thank god it’s April 1st.
Very impressive David! Actually it would be interesting to see if Jackie O would be the kiss of death for the Logies. Almost every tv show she has ever presented has ended up being canned.
My first coment was going to be Ugh…but now it’s phew what a relief. Those two at something as traditional as the Logies is just not on.
I’ll admit it, you had me. But I made the fatal mistake of only reading the title! Had I gone on, I may have twigged lol.
Looks like a lot got fooled, LOL
Thank good it’s not true, not that I would have watched either way…
That was brilliant. You had me unbelievably good. I was like, no way. Surely they wouldn’t do that.
Yep; you got me, I was ready to rant up a storm 😛 Bravo. 😛
You fooled me good!!!!!!!
Well done, that was a very believable story
Haha, you had me until the tweets. And good job too, I was horrified 😛
Damn! You fooled me David, very good prank.
Just before midday… all Comments now approved. Who got fooled? Thanks for playing everyone!
That one was funny, sadly i wouldn’t put it past Channel 9 to implement this plan for real. That would be the final nail in the coffin for the Logies as a telecast event.
Just one more reason not to bother watching….
Hmm… what’s the date today? Got me for about two seconds David
another reason not to watch
Finally some common sense 😉
Goodone david didn’t fool me 🙂
I can’t stand either of them. I won’t be watching the Logies now. This is a bad move. Surely there is someone else to go with.
Oh Well done Sponsors!
Let’s see how committed producers are to the cause of keeping this idiot employed with no backing
I know it’s April Fools Day and all, but don’t even joke about something so horrific, David!
This is a bad April Fools joke,as you just never know it could actually happen one day.
Stunning mistake!! I will not watch this “controversial” pair! I bet I am not the only I e that will switch off!
Hello car crash TV!
It is meant to be a night of celebration, not encouraging badly behaved stars!!
Wait, it must be a April Fools hoax! As I did a search on Google and nothing else come up. It also wasn’t mentioned on Weekend Sunrise or Today.
