Matthew Newton arrested again in Miami

Actor Matthew Newton has been arrested yet again in Miami, after allegedly punching a hotel receptionist in the face and resisting arrest.

Actor Matthew Newton has been arrested yet again in Miami, after allegedly punching a hotel receptionist in the face and resisting arrest.

It is the second time Newton has been arrested in Miami.

The Miami Police Department has charged Newton, 35, with simple battery and resist arrest without violence after the alleged assault at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel last week.

The Age reports surveillance footage of the incident allegedly shows Newton getting into a verbal argument with the man behind the counter, before he gets upset and throws paper off the desk, a Miami Police Department spokesman said.

According to the police report officers were called to the hotel early in the morning of April 17 and spoke to the manager, who showed them the surveillance footage.

“… The manager stated [the] defendant approached victim and was angry about a call being dropped,” the report said.

“Defendant then threw all the papers [off] the counter.

“Defendant then went behind the counter and punched victim in the face with a closed fist and then pushed the victim to the ground.”

The incident follows a string of others involving the troubled actor, with Newton arrested earlier this month in Miami for refusing to leave a bar after being given repeated warnings by uniformed Miami Police Department officers.

He was charged with resisting police without violence and trespass, and was released from the lock-up after a $2,000 bond was posted.

Newton still faces an assault charge in Sydney.
