SBS has appointed Chris Keely as its General Manager Subscription Television, replacing Sandra Bender as the head of the World Movies and Studio channels.
Keely has extensive experience in subscription television having developed and managed channels for Viacom (MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr. and Comedy Central) and managed channels at Optus Vision (Ovation and licensed MTV channels).
He has also worked as an adviser to Commonwealth and State ministers for the Arts, was involved in leading development of cultural policy “Creative Nation”, and has a long association with the arts and cultural sectors.
“SBS is pleased to welcome Chris on board. With high-level skills and experience over a long period of time in the subscription television industry, Chris brings to SBS a deep understanding of the business and a track record in growing channels,” SBS Chief Operating Officer Richard Finlayson said.
“Chris’ unique experience in both television and the arts and cultural sectors will be invaluable to SBS as it continues the work of reaching out to audiences through our subscription television channels.”
Keely added: “I am delighted to be joining SBS at this exciting time and look forward to the opportunity to build on its huge successes so far. SBS has a unique mission to reflect the diversity and rich multiculturalism of our nation and its subscription channels are making an important contribution to achieving this goal.”
