One Direction battle…. Today vs Sunrise
Two breakfast shows. One Direction. And thousands of girls in tears....

One Direction fever is upon us with the UK boyband already in the country and creating media frenzy. Tweens at Sydney Airport were devastated when the boys skipped meeting adoring fans who had been waiting overnight.
Others are now loitering at the Intercontinental Hotel for a glimpse of the teen popsters.
Tomorrow they will appear live on breakfast television, first on Today and then on Sunrise.
The Today show has them live from 7.40am for their first Australian interview before a special audience of children from the Starlight Foundation and Sydney Children’s Hospital.
From there they dash straight to Martin Place for an appearance in Sunrise during the show’s final hour. Fans have already been camping out and queuing just to get a glimpse through the studio glass -but there will be no meet and greet.
With back to back appearances, they may need a police escort just to make it on time.
It’s sure to be an epic teeny-battle of ratings and media coverage, despite Nine Live being the official promoter.
Following the two TV breakfast appointments the band head off to do radio chats.
Their only TV performance will be Sunday night at the Logie Awards where they threaten to upstage the whole damn thing.

Sunrise won the battle, definitely. They had a bigger crowd, more anticipated and publicised, I didn’t even know they were appearing on the Today show until your other news story. The crowd seemed to be more controlled then the Justin Bieber fiasco. Kudos to Sunrise.
Personally I think the Today Show won this “battle”.. a longer interview with a controlled audience (Today Show) vs shorter interview with out of control audience (Sunrise).
I’m not a fan (of either Today or 1 Direction) but I lease know who they are after watching their interview on the Today Show.
Gra Gra-
Actually, I am being serious in my question of “who”.
I have not heard of them before. 🙂
One Direction? Sounds like a Christian rock band…
@Dominick, JBar, Stilesy et al…aww come on with the ‘who?’ type cynicism. Let the kid’s have their fun. As a very aware 60 year old who slept out overnight outside the Southern Cross Hotel in Melbourne to catch a glimpse of the Beatles, I can tell you I don’t need to ask about who One Direction are. 4.2 million albums in six months. Good on you kids. Dominick who?
Maybe the TEN chopper will follow the action as they go from 9 to 7?
But really who cares, no one unless you’re a 12 year old girl. Its just another boy band which will be gone in a year.
I agree with “Dominick” never heard of them. Most bands these days have the instrumentation up so loud you can not hear the words let alone try to decipher what they are trying to sing about. At least Tony Bennet will be at the Logies, you will be able to understand him, diction great, songs may be a bit dated though!
@JB haha lol so true 😛
@Dominick, I agree, who??
I’d rather see No Direction.
They hope to get from Willoughby to Martin Place in less than an hour, at 8am!? Dream on.
Damn. Now I’ll have to watch the Logies because my tweens want to see them.
should help boost Tens ratings
I would prefer to have them 2nd like sunrise are, at least they aren’t in a hurry and may be on for longer at sunrise.
Hair today, gone tomorrow.
Who?
And tomorrow on ABC News Breakfast, absolutely no coverage of One Direction. Now that is what it should be like 🙂
