The series finale of Who Do You Think You Are? airs on SBS ONE this week, featuring former AFL footballer Michael O’Loughlin.

Aboriginal footballer Michael O’Loughlin returns to Adelaide where he grew up to begin tracing the bloodlines of his family. Here he sees a family tree of his mother’s maternal line, which stretches all the way back before white settlement and to his great, great, great, great grandmother, Kudnarto, a full blood Kaurna woman. Michael discovered that Kudnarto’s husband and Michael’s great great, great, great grandfather is in fact a white settler called Thomas Adams and that their marriage made history. Kudnarto was also the first Aboriginal to take up a land grant. But as political agendas changed, an intergenerational fight for the right to land ensured.

Michael also investigates his father’s side and a family legend that connects him to Australia’s fifty dollar bill. His discovers a life-changing ancestor, his great grandfather Milerum, who was one of the last Aboriginals from the Coorong and Lake regions to move to a Christian mission.

7:30pm Tuesday on SBS ONE.
