ACA to delay escort interview on Thomson affair

A Current Affair will hold off screening its interview with a former Sydney escort to enable authorities to proceed with their inquiries.

A Current Affair will hold off screening its interview with a former Sydney escort who has alleged MP Craig Thomson was a former client.

Executive Producer Grant Williams issued a statement yesterday claiming the information had been forwarded to police as part of their investigations:

As has been previously reported, A Current Affair has been conducting an investigation into allegations against Federal MP Craig Thomson in relation to his former position at the Health Services Union.

Our investigation is now complete.

The Victoria Police Fraud and Extortion Squad are presently conducting a criminal investigation in relation to Craig Thomson and we have supplied evidentiary material in our possession, resulting from our enquiries, to Police, to assist them in their on-going investigation.

We now await the outcome of the police investigation before pursuing the story any further.

The move follows considerable criticism of Nine’s intent to air the interview by sections of the media, including acknowledgement that monies would be paid for the exclusive.

Perhaps damage has already been done to Thomson, who still has some significant questions to address in the eyes of the electorate. But aside from one lift in the ratings last Thursday, Nine hasn’t yet cashed in from its scoop.

So it’s a positive move to see it is allowing authorities to proceed with their inquiries.

  1. @Ann yeah that is clever but they definitely will air the interview. It is certain to be a ratings winner and will get lots of publicity on other news programmes on all the networks. ACA would be stupid not to air it – so many people want to see it.
