Bumped: Nurse Jackie. Gone: Californication

ELEVEN has dumped Californication and bumped Nurse Jackie to a later timeslot as from next week.

ELEVEN has dumped Californication and bumped Nurse Jackie to a later timeslot as from next week.

Nurse Jackie will now air at 11:30pm following a movie.

The movie is no doubt in response to underwhelming ratings.

On Tuesday this week The Office was 72,000, Californication was 67,000 and Nurse Jackie was 44,000.

It’s a bit surprising ELEVEN has pulled Californication, which actually rated higher than Nurse Jackie.

But the real impact would have been from The Voice.

And how much promotion have these shows been given?

  1. *bangs. head. repeatedly*

Okay, so from my perspective, they’ve put NCIS, which I watch with my mum, up against Nurse Jackie, which I also watch with my mum, and both superlate.

    *groan*

  2. Was getting ready to watch Californication and Nurse Jackie tonight and found they were gone / moved. WTF!?

They did this sort of thing on CH10 (Dexter etc.) before 11 was up and running which was bad enough but to do it now on 11 where you think they would have more choice / sense / idea etc. Just dumb.

    Someone needs to be sacked.

And what do ratings matter anyway !?? Nobody has ever asked me or any household I have lived in what we like to watch.

Who’s this magic group of people who are rejoicing in this decision ? What opportunistic void has been created that will now be seized by the brainiac programmers at 10/11 ? Douche bags.

  3. What time will Craig Ferguson be on then? David?
Geez!!!!! Channel 10 man you guys are so stupid, Way to go to stuff up your best show The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson! You better not cancel it completely.

  4. I waited patiently like all the other TV Fans to do the right thing and watch Californication on Eleven. In previous years it was fast tracked from the US, this year we have to wait until a few months after the whole series has aired in its entirety? It’s like being back in the early 90s when Australia was months behind the US. What a joke. Shame on Eleven. Shame.

And yes about Tim Minchin. Was really looking forward to that.

  5. I used to watch Craig Ferguson every night. Since they started playing around with the schedule I think I’ve seen it maybe 5 times.
Its a shame as its one of the few shows that makes me laugh out loud!! Screw you Eleven!

  6. It’s bad enough that they’re shafting Nurse Jackie to 11:30pm, but it’s even worse that Craig Ferguson will be on at midnight. Since they stopped showing them at 10:30, I’ve been taping Craig and watching it the following night. Eleven used to be the reliable channel, what happened?

My girlfriend is a big Nurse Jackie fan, but I’m the one who follows when shows change timeslot. Without this website, we’d be screwed (thanks David)!

  7. Well another pathetic decision by Ten! Shows like nurse jackie and californication deserve to be in 8.30 and 9.30 slots! No reason why these shows cant play @ 8.30! Also there is fk all promotion of these shows! Ten needs to learn not to advertise Ten”s shows on 11 but promote 11 shows on 10 like 7 does.

  8. Just so depressing.
Not just because these clever shows are being treated badly, but because execrable TV, like that upcoming Laura Bingle thing, will probably rate its pants off. Or her pants off, should I say.
On the plus side, I’ve been able to get a lot more reading done lately thanks to commercial TV.

  9. That stinks, two of my favourite shows, and now Craig Ferguson will start after midnight so that’s another night I’ll miss. Eleven was actually one of the more stable channels but it would seem that the main channel is performing so poorly that Ten are desperate to boost the ratings of 11 and One just to try and beat the ABC into third on the combined numbers.

When Nine have no idea they stick on a couple of eps of TBBT while Ten’s default position is obviously to put on NCIS or a ten-year old movie.

On the plus side, I’ll now be able to have a look at Missing on 7 and see if it’s worth committing to.

  10. “And how much promotion have these shows been given?” Not a single mention on Channel Ten’s twitter or Google Plus pages (that I recall).

I would have watched Californication if I knew it was back on. Hopefully will be on their catch up site.

  11. What?! bad mistake Eleven! The Voice isn’t even on next Tuesday so don’t give us that excuse. Eleven surprised me with airing Dexter Season 5 in full without moving it but come on! airing a movie isn’t gonna fix ratings!

  12. Yawn. But I suppose the ratings don’t lie. Australians clearly don’t like quality, edgy, well written shows in big enough numbers to run them in prime time. Look at how poorly Offspring is rating this season.

Nurse Jackie is one of the best shows on television, full stop, and the fact that only 44,000 Australians agree, is frankly, depressing!

Thank God for PVRs and the internet.

  13. Granted that Californication season 5 wasn’t fast tracked and is probably the most mediocre season of the show so far (as they unfortunately cut back on the T&A, for some reason), it should still be shown and moved to an 11 or 11.30 pm timeslot. I wonder if Ten will well onsell the Cali and NJ shows to Foxel, as Go probably would if it had them.

  14. I’m surprised they bumped the higher rated show. But maybe they will play it later on (in weeks or a month or two ) but still before 10.30pm.

As for promotion I can’t say about outside the channel. However they did promote both of them on Eleven. I saw the ads many times.

Speaking of promotion I wish they’d get rid of those electronic ads during programmes. It turns me off anything you choose to promote that way as it tells the audience you like ruining your shows. “So don’t try new shows especially not the one we are promoting.” I don’t mind the quick “Next” after the “Now” . But I wish that would be it.

  15. Eleven, I am hereby flipping you the bird. These are 2 of my favourite shows and your decision to show them together and fast-tracked was a good move. It even encouraged me to have faith in you and avoid the temptations of watching these shows ‘by other means’. Well enough is enough, and you leave viewers with no reasonable alternative but to go elsewhere. When will programmers realise there are viewers who enjoy Showtime(US) shows and have absolutely no interest in reality shows involving cooking, dieting, dancing, renovating or D grade celebrities? I voted for 11 as my favourite digital channel in last year’s TV Tonight poll but they are now IMHO the worst!

  16. Maybe I was mistaken but I thought that multi channels would provide more choice. I watched Nurse Jackie and have never watched or been interested in The Voice. Looks like another date with the PVR.
