Carmen Smith sings on Australia’s Got Talent

By David Knox on May 22, 2012 / Filed Under Programming 10

“I’ll be singing with someone I absolutely love,” says Guy Sebastian in the latest promo for Australia’s Got Talent.

That someone is booted Voice contestant, Carmen Smith.

She sings Gold with him in tomorrow night’s episode on Seven. It was her video with Sebastian that saw her cut from the show. At the time Nine was said to have invited her and Sebastian to perform on The Voice, but it looks like they decided to head to Seven, where Sebastian is signed to The X Factor.

Seven’s talent show, which hasn’t hit stellar numbers this year, leans heavily on The Voice ex-singer in promos …. even ahead of its own Semi-Finalists.

7:30pm Wednesday in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
7:30pm Thursday in Sydney and Brissy.

Guy Sebastian would never have performed on The Voice. I like Guy Sebastian but I don’t like his new song Gold. Sorry to say this but Carmen’s performance won’t do much to the figures.

Don’t know why AGT didn’t up the ante again this year and do two shows a week: a Live performance show and a Live results show. If they can do it with X Factor, they can do it with AGT.

Wow, this is a desperate move by a network in steady decline. Seven and Fremantle must be clasping at straws if they’re trying to win ratings this way.

In 2 minds about this. On one hand it seems AGT has accepted defeat that they are the lower rating of the two and asking The Voice viewers to come over. Not a winners attitude.

On the other hand if you are going to bash another network I’d much rather it be with these little stunts, at least there is a bit of creativity, rather than just make an the usual ACA mud slinging story.

“Guy currently doing X Factor with 7 prevented him in doing so? I’d hope it wasn’t the latter as Guy is supposedly a musician first and shouldn’t really be exclusive to a certain channel.”

It would undoubtedly be because of that reason. Note that although he has been tweeting about his brother, he hasn’t been seen on screen at any of the performances – no way are 7 going to let him anywhere near The Voice, and the contract he is under for X Factor would have limitations about his appearances on television programs.

Will check out Agt to see how this goes. Haven’t really been a watcher of Agt in the past, but I was hoping to see Guy and Carmen do this on The Voice last night. Wonder why it didn’t happen? Carmen doesn’t want to be involved with it anymore or something in Guy currently doing X Factor with 7 prevented him in doing so? I’d hope it wasn’t the latter as Guy is supposedly a musician first and shouldn’t really be exclusive to a certain channel.

I will be watching AGT, but not because Carmen is appearing. I suppose some Voice viewers that don’t normally watch AGT may watch it to see Carmen, but I wouldn’t imagine she would have much effect on the ratings.

You know this whole exposure is probably the best thing to happen to her career.

Nine may have actually done her a favour.

    Love it. Go Carmen!
